Former My Chemical Romance drummer Bob Bryar’s cause of death has been ruled undetermined.
When the musician was found dead in his home in November 2024, he was discovered next to three large canisters of nitrous oxide, according to an autopsy report obtained by TMZ. The outlet also reported that antidepressants were found in Bryar’s home.
While the medical examiner suspected an “intentional or accidental overdose,” because of the state of Bryar’s body, his cause and manner of death were “best classified as undetermined,” TMZ reported from the autopsy details.
A rep for the late artist could not be reached by PEOPLE for comment.
Bryar was 44 when he died. According to TMZ, which was first to report the news, his body was found on Nov. 26, 2024, and authorities told the outlet that he was last seen alive on Nov. 4.
At the time, a representative for My Chemical Romance told PEOPLE that “the band asks for your patience and understanding as they process the news of Bob’s passing.”
The emo band shared its condolences for Bryar on Dec. 2 via Instagram.
“It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Bob Bryar, our former bandmate and an important part of the history of My Chemical Romance. We send our deepest condolences to his friends and family at this time. May he rest in peace.” they wrote, alongside a photo of the former drummer.
Bryar performed with My Chemical Romance from 2004 until his departure in 2010.
Shortly after the release of their 2004 album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, he joined the New Jersey group, replacing original drummer Matt Pelissier, according to NME and Kerrang!.

Bryar joined the rock band after he studied sound engineering at the University of Florida and began working as a sound engineer for Thrice and The Used, eventually striking up a friendship with MCR during their tour with the latter in 2004, per NME.
He played on the group 2006’s album The Black Parade and worked on material for 2010’s Danger Days before his departure, according to Kerrang!
Following Bryar’s exit, rhythm guitarist Frank Iero wrote on the band’s blog at the time, per NME, “As of four weeks ago, My Chemical Romance and Bob Bryar parted ways. This was a painful decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours, and expect you all to do the same.”
