Plane passengers take their comfort very seriously.
On a Jetstar Airways flight from Melbourne, Australia en route to Bali, Indonesia on Friday, March 28, two men exchanged heated words before erupting into a physical altercation.
The incident was captured on video by a fellow passenger and shows a man aggressively gesturing and yelling at the man sitting behind him. “Do you think this is enough?” he shouted. “Do you think one of us is going to f—— die? Watch. Drunk piece of s—.”
As he turned back around, another man with a baseball cap, sitting a few rows over and behind the person who was yelling, began climbing over occupied seats to reach him. As he attempted to punch the man, another passenger jumped up between them and held back the second aggressor.
As seen in the video, multiple flight crew members quickly appeared and pulled the two passengers away from each other as a few passengers shouted, “No!” at the men.
A traveler sitting closer to the man in the cap attempted to and successfully pulled him back to his seat. One of the flight attendants could be heard saying, “Alright, that’s enough, boys,” before the altercation settled and all parties were back in the seats.
In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, a Jetstar Airways spokesperson says, “We have a zero-tolerance policy for disruptive and abusive behavior on our flights. Our crew members are trained to de-escalate incidents involving unruly passengers and we thank them for how they managed this situation.”
The airline maintained that its “operations teams are currently investigating this incident.” There have not been any arrests made.
Unfortunately, altercations in the air are fairly common. Back in February, an Alaska Airlines flight attendant had to physically subdue and restrain a passenger who would not let go of the hair of the passenger sitting in front of him.
In that now-viral video, the flight attendant can be seen hitting the passenger and then holding him down to seemingly get him to let go of the woman’s hair.
The flight attendant could be heard calling out to the other travelers, stating, “I need another able-bodied male to come help me.”
That same month, a couple took on multiple passengers as they attempted to push their way toward the jet bridge while disembarking the plane. The couple, who reportedly disturbed other passengers during the flight as well, complained about the other passengers moving “too slow” and argued with flight attendants about the issue.
As they became more disruptive, other passengers stepped in, attempting to calm the situation. However, the couple continued to push through, even against the flight attendants.
In a statement to PEOPLE at the time, Hong Kong Airlines confirmed that “appropriate action had been taken against the passengers involved.”
The statement continued, “Hong Kong Airlines takes flight safety and our passengers’ traveling experience very seriously. We are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our crew and passengers and have a zero-tolerance policy towards any disruptive behavior or breaches of the Aviation Security Ordinance.”
