It’s been 20 years since fans got a sequel to the 2000 beloved film Miss Congeniality with Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous.
The movie not only welcomed back original cast members like Sandra Bullock as FBI agent Gracie Hart and William Shatner as Stan Fields, it also included a whole new cast of characters including Regina King as Sam Fuller and Nick Offerman as Karl Steele.
In celebration of the film’s 20th anniversary, here’s a look at what everyone from the iconic film has been up to since.
Sandra Bullock
Though Sandra Bullock has since revealed that she thinks the sequel “shouldn’t have been done,” she was onboard to reprise FBI agent Gracie Hart for the 2005 film.
Since then, she’s appeared in fan favorites like 2009’s The Proposal (which like Miss Congeniality, she also produced) and The Blind Side — the latter of which earned her an Oscar for Best Actress.
Bullock also starred in 2013’s Gravity and 2018’s Ocean’s Eight. In 2018, she was back in the producer’s chair for Netflix’s Bird Box — which she starred in; the same goes for 2021’s The Unforgivable and 2022’s The Lost City with Channing Tatum. She also appeared alongside Brad Pitt and Joey King in 2022’s Bullet Train.
Bullock began dating Bryan Randall in 2015 and they stayed together until his death in 2023 after a “three-year battle with ALS.”
The award-winning actress is mom to her two kids, son Louis and daughter Laila, whom she welcomed via adoption in 2010 and 2015, respectively.
Regina King
Fresh off her roles in 2004’s Ray and A Cinderella Story, Regina King appeared as Hart’s partner Sam Fuller in the 2005 movie. Bullock later said she was all in all “glad” the second film happened “because of Regina [King], who I just freaking adore.”
She later went on to star in shows like 24, Southland , The Leftovers, American Crime and from 2005 to 2014 lent her voice to The Boondocks.
In 2019, she took home the Oscar for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk and in 2024, she portrayed the first Black woman to be elected to the U.S. Congress, Shirley Chisholm, in Shirley.
King was married to Ian Alexander Sr. from 1997 to 2007, and shared one son together. Their son, Ian Alexander Jr., died in 2022.
Treat Williams
After three decades in the industry, Treat Williams appeared as Collins in the star-studded film. At the time, he’d already started his tenure on Everwood, which he appeared on until 2006 and later continued his bustling acting career with roles in Against the Wall, White Collar, Chicago Fire, Blue Bloods and Chesapeake Shores which earned him a SAG Award nomination.
His role as William Paley in 2024’s Feud would ultimately be his last, as the actor tragically died in a motorcycle accident at the age of 71 in June 2023. He and his wife Pam Van Sant , whom he wed in 1988, shared two children together: son Gill and daughter Ellie.
Enrique Murciano
When Enrique Murciano landed the role of Jeff Foreman in Miss Congeniality 2, he was in the middle of his run on Without a Trace, which he starred on from 2002 to 2009. Since then, he’s worked in both film and TV with roles on NCIS, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Power, Bloodline and The Night Agent. His most recent credit came in 2024 on Netflix’s Monsters.
William Shatner
Star Trek legend William Shatner reprised the role of Stan Fields in the sequel amid roles in films like 2002’s Shoot or Be Shot and 2003’s A Carol Christmas. In 2004, he began his Emmy and Golden Globe-winning performance as Denny Crane on Boston Legal and has since starred on various shows, including $#*! My Dad Says and Masters of the Universe: Revolution.
Outside of acting, Shatner became the oldest person to ever go to space at 90 years old when he traveled on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space shuttle in 2021.
The actor has been married various times over the years but has three children with his first wife, Gloria Rand: daughters Leslie, Lisabeth and Melanie.
Ernie Hudson
After appearing in the first film as FBI Assistant Director Harry McDonald, Ernie Hudson was back for round two. Hudson had already risen to fame in the 1980s with a role in the original Ghostbusters movie and was back to his roots in 2016 appearing in the remake Ghostbusters and again in 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife and 2024’s Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Outside of the Ghostbusters universe, Hudson has appeared on Desperate Housewives, Bones, Law & Order, Grace and Franki, Quantum Leap and most recently on The Family Business.
Hudson has been with his wife Linda Kingsberg for more than four decades and is a dad of four, sharing two children with Kinsberg and two with his ex-wife Jeannie Moore.
Heather Burns
While there are many iconic moments from the Miss Congeniality movies, one of the more memorable ones is when the pageant contestants are asked to describe their perfect date and Heather Burns’ Miss Rhode Island says, “April 25.” Thankfully, her doe-eyed character was back for the sequel.
In 2005, Burns also appeared in Bewitched and later on several episodes of Twenty Good Years. From 2009 to 2011 she starred as Leah on Bored to Death and in 2011 landed a role in What’s Your Number?
More recently, she appeared in 2016’s Oscar nominated film Manchester by the Sea and in television shows Friends From College, Blindspot and Julia. She’s also brought her acting talents to the stage, appearing in the 2024 off-Broadway production of Hold Me Darling with Adam Driver.
Burns welcomed a son in 2016 with her husband, actor Ajay Naidu.
Nick Offerman
Nick Offerman had various roles under his belt when he landed the part of Karl Steele in Miss Congeniality 2. He’d appeared in episodes of shows like ER, The Practice, NYPD Blue, George Lopez and Gilmore Girls before landing the role of Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation in 2009.
During his six years on the show, he also appeared in movies like We’re the Millers and 22 Jump Street. He’s continued to have a vibrant career in the years since the show wrapped with roles in Fargo, The Founder, 3Below: Tales of Arcadia, Children’s Hosptial and more recently, an Emmy-winning performance in The Last of Us. Later this year, he will appear in the next Mission Impossible film alongside Tom Cruise and Angela Bassett.
In his personal life, Offerman has been married to fellow actor Megan Mullally since 2003 after meeting while doing a play together in 2000. Over the years, the two have appeared together onscreen numerous times, including on Children’s Hosptial, Will & Grace and, of course, Parks and Recreation.
Abraham Benrubi
Abraham Benrubi had kicked off his career more than a decade prior to the sequel with roles on film and TV including a recurring part on Parker Lewis Can’t Lose and played Jerry Markovic on ER from 1994 to 2009.
After appearing as Lou Steele in Miss Congeniality 2, he continued to land roles on both the big and small screen and with voiceovers. He appeared on Happy Town, Memphis Best and The Bridge and lent his voice to Big Hero 6, It’s Pony and Robot Chicken.
He has played Santa on multiple occasions including 2013’s A Country Christmas, 2022’s Christmas Bloody Christmas and his most recent credit, Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.
Diedrich Bader
Diedrich Bader has had a jam-packed résumé of film and TV roles since starring as Joel, Gracie’s stylist, in the 2005 sequel.
With a career that kicked off in the late 1980s, he appeared in 1999’s Office Space and episodes of iconic shows like Cheers and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Just before Miss Congeniality 2, Bader appeared in Napoleon Dynamite and later Balls of Fury and a slew of other TV roles.
He also starred on Veep from 2014 to 2019 and American Housewife from 2016 to 2021. More recently, Bader reunited with Benrubi in Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story and appeared on one episode of Kate Hudson’s show Running Point.
