Miranda Kerr has addressed the backlash she faced over her disciplined diet and wellness routine. The supermodel took to Instagram on August 21 to open up about her daily lifestyle that had been labelled as “unhinged habits”.

“Some of my ‘unhinged’ habits are actually just the routines that make me feel my best. For me, that looks like avoiding foods that cause inflammation in my body, prioritizing sleep, and being really intentional about the little choices I make every day. I start each morning with noni juice (even though I’ll be the first to admit it doesn’t taste very good), I cut out alcohol and I’m usually in bed before 9pm,” she penned in the caption. “Wellness looks different for everyone, so be sure to listen to your body and stay consistent with what makes you feel good.”

Miranda shared a post that broke down the non-negotiable wellness practices she follows to ensure she feels her best. “Eating a gluten-free, egg-free and dairy-free diet to reduce inflammation,” read the first slide in the carousel. Other practices included being in bed by 9pm and up at 5am, starting everyday with a shot of noni juice, never falling asleep in makeup, eating dinner with her kids at 5pm, avoiding alcohol, and using certified organic skincare from her brand KORA Organics.

The criticism came after Miranda appeared on Kristin Cavallari’s Let’s be Honest podcast, where she explained that she changed her diet when she was diagnosed with proctitis, a form of irritable bowel syndrome, during her pregnancy with her second son six years ago.

“I love food, but when I got sick, I had to learn even more that food is medicine,” she shared. “So, I love to have nutritious and delicious foods that feed my soul, but, at the same time, I don’t crave like unhealthy food anymore because I know how detrimental that can be to my body on the inside, not even about what it looks like on the outside, but on the inside.”

Miranda follows a protein-rich diet. “I do proteins, like meats like venison, bison, lamb, turkey. I eat all the meats that aren’t mass-produced for the reasons that we all know,” she explained. “I’m not much of a fruit girl, to be honest, but I will have a banana, and I also think a banana is a great snack to go. I do love mangoes.”

However, the model avoids dairy, eggs, and wheat, and is “very specific about the oils, so only cooking with coconut oil or avocado oil. No seed oils.” When it comes to vegetables, she favours squash, carrots, and parsnips.
