Miley Cyrus left her fans almost lost for words after sharing a breathtaking new photograph as she continues to unveil her latest reinvention.

The 33-year-old singer looked almost ethereal in the striking close-up, wearing her platinum blonde hair in voluminous, tousled layers around her face as she stared directly into the camera.

Miley’s piercing blue eyes were accentuated with dramatic smoky liner, while a glossy nude lip and glowing complexion completed the glamorous beauty look.

The photograph attracted more than 786,000 likes within just seven hours, with one thing becoming very clear from the comments: fans couldn’t get over how beautiful she looked.

“The prettiest,” declared one follower.  But it was Miley’s resemblance to her mom, Tish Cyrus, that caught another fan’s attention, as they exclaimed: “So gorgeous and a spitting image of Tish.”

Miley Cyrus becomes simply ‘Miley’

The striking portrait comes at the beginning of one of the biggest reinventions of Miley’s career. After more than two decades of being professionally known as Miley Cyrus, the Grammy winner has dropped her famous surname from her artist branding and is now going simply by Miley.

Her Instagram handle has changed from @mileycyrus to @miley, while “Cyrus” has also disappeared from her other social media branding and official website. Her forthcoming tenth studio album, Bass Persuades, is likewise being released under the single name “Miley.”

It’s a significant full-circle moment for a star whose name has already evolved considerably during her lifetime. She was born Destiny Hope Cyrus in 1992, but was nicknamed “Smiley” as a child because of her cheerful personality. That was eventually shortened to Miley, and in 2008 she legally changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus.

Now, she appears ready to join the ranks of instantly recognizable stars including Cher, Madonna and Beyoncé by needing just one name.

What Billy Ray Cyrus thinks of Miley’s name change

The decision inevitably sparked speculation about whether dropping Cyrus had anything to do with Miley’s complicated relationship with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.

However, Billy Ray has publicly thrown his support behind the move following the pair’s reconciliation. “I always called my little girl Miley. Just
Miley,” the country singer wrote on Instagram, before revealing that he had told his daughter he “felt good” about the change.

He compared her evolution to some of music’s most recognizable one-name performers, including Cher, Dolly, Elvis and Prince, and described the move as a “natural progression for an iconic superstar legend.”

The father and daughter had experienced a period of estrangement following Billy Ray’s divorce from Miley’s mother, Tish Cyrus, but have since repaired their relationship.

Miley enters a new chapter

The change also coincides with a major musical chapter for Miley. Her tenth studio album, Bass Persuades, arrives on September 18 and follows 2025’s Something Beautiful. It also marks her latest project after signing a new record deal with Atlantic Records.

Miley has described the new record as a love story, although she stressed that its meaning goes far beyond romance. “This album is a love story, but love stories are never one-dimensional,” she told Wonderland. “They’re always layered.”

“There is definitely a romantic thread weaving through it because, like all my records, it’s a reflection of where I am in my life.”

And there is plenty happening in Miley’s personal life to inspire her. She is engaged to musician Maxx Morando, whom she has been romantically linked to since 2021, and the couple have increasingly stepped into the spotlight together.

Earlier this year, they even sparked speculation that they may already have secretly married after Miley’s mom Tish appeared to refer to Maxx as her daughter’s “husband” during Miley’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. There has been no confirmation from the couple that they have tied the knot.

Miley’s emotional new era

The singer’s reinvention has also arrived during an emotional period following the death of her beloved godmother Dolly Parton.

In a moving tribute shortly before unveiling her new “Miley” identity, she revealed that one of her final conversations with Dolly had been about “music and metamorphosis.”

“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share,” Miley wrote, explaining that their most sacred moments would remain private. She added that she knew Dolly would want her to “feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong.”
