Michael Evans Behling and Greta Onieogou are happy to be back for season 7 of the CW’s All American.

In a recent exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Evans Behling, 28, and Onieogou, 33, who have been regulars since the start of the drama series, shared what it feels like to return for an all-new season.

“It’s another great opportunity to be able to come and play these characters, and truthfully have a lot of fun with Greta, and our crew, and Bre-Z [Calesha “Bre-Z” Murray], and a lot of the new actors that have made this experience, this transition, seamless,” Evans Behling tells PEOPLE, adding that “the energy on set is very infectious.”

He continues, “And so coming back for season seven has been really peaceful and dreamlike.”

Evans Behling stars as Jordan Baker, a football coach for the South Crenshaw High School’s Chargers.

His character was introduced during season 1 as the teen son of Taye Diggs’ Coach Billy Baker. Season 7 sees Jordan now married to Onieogou’s Layla.

Onieogou tells PEOPLE, “I feel like peaceful is a great word, sort of in such a rhythm with things after seven years.”

“And I think it’s so different for our fantastic new cast that’s coming in,” she says.

Onieogou says her new co-stars are able “to come into an environment that’s more settled and more of a well-oiled machine.”

“And so it’s nice to be a part of creating that sort of experience for them,” she continues. “I feel like they’ve really infused the show with a new energy and perspective. It’s been a real joy.”

The actress adds, “I can’t believe it’s been seven seasons. It’s kind of crazy.”

According to an official logline, “Season seven is taking it back to where it all began: Beverly Hills High and South Crenshaw High. It’s the same heart, same NFL dream, same crosstown rivalry, same messy hormones, ushered in by a new generation of LA teens, a new Beverly Coach and our OG vortex fam, who are surprised to find they’re supposed to be the responsible adults now.”

In addition to Evans Behling returning as Jordan Baker and Onieogou returning as Layla, Calesha “Bre-Z” Murray also returns as Coop.

New cast members include: Osy Ikhile as “Cassius Jeremy,” Nathaniel McIntyre as “KJ,” Antonio J. Bell as “Khalil” and Alexis Chikaeze as “Amina.”

Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios in association with Berlanti Productions are behind the drama series with executive producers Nkechi Okoro Carroll, Greg Berlanti, Jameal Turner, Sarah Schechter and David Strauss.
