Things still haven’t changed between Melissa Gorga and Teresa Giudice.
During the premiere of Jenni “JWoww” Farley’s movie Devon on Friday, Nov. 8 at the AMC Empire 25 in New York City, the Real Housewives of New Jersey star told PEOPLE about her strained family ties with her sister-in-law and where they stand today.
When asked if being away from the cameras of the reality show helped her and Teresa’s relationship, Melissa, 45, said, “I guess there’s no relationship.”
“There’s just no relationship, nothing has changed,” she added. “It’s pretty much right where it was and I just think that’s how it’s got to be for a while.”
Melissa and Teresa, 52, have had a hot-and-cold relationship for years. One of the earliest moments fans can recall is when Melissa’s husband Joe Gorga — who is Teresa’s brother — called his sister “garbage” in 2011 during the reality show’s season 3 premiere. Giudice, meanwhile, accused Melissa of being a gold digger in 2011 not long after.
The families have been embroiled in different drama between a restaurant opening (and closing), fist fights between Melissa’s husband and Teresa’s ex-husband, Joe Giudice, spreading rumors about infidelity, and the sisters-in-law costarring in the Real Housewives crossover Ultimate Girls Trip.
More recently, Melissa wasn’t included in Teresa’s bridal party, and the Gorgas were excluded from Teresa’s wedding to Luis Ruelas in August 2022 after Teresa allegedly spread rumors about her sister-in-law cheating on her brother (which Melissa has denied).
Elsewhere in the interview, Gorga spoke about what she had been up to amid the uncertainty of whether or not RHONJ would get renewed for its 15th season. The reality star called it “a nice little break.”
“I’m actually enjoying the time off. I’m enjoying just like working really hard at Envy right now,” she said, referring to her boutique clothing shop, with locations in Ridgewood, N.J. and Huntington, N.Y.
“I never have this much time to get in there and do as much as I’ve been doing lately,” Melissa continues. “We’ve really like getting a lot of new brands in. So I’m taking the minute that I think the show needed, and I’m taking the time to spend time with my family and work hard, you know, on my other projects.”
