Mel C has refused to address the ‘Beckham family feud’. Joining Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden on Heart Radio, the singer was quizzed about the possibility of a Spice Girls reunion tour with Victoria Beckham on Friday. Assuring Melanie, 52, that their conversation would have nothing to do with the Beckham family, Amanda, 54, noted that she had introduced a Beckham ban on the breakfast show. “Yeah, we won’t be talking about that,” Mel quietly agreed.
Steering the interview back to the Spice Girls, the pop icon revealed that she’s always hopeful when it comes to the idea of a reunion tour. “So, the picture from last weekend, we were celebrating Emma’s birthday,” Mel began, referencing a snap of herself with bandmates Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham, which recently went viral.
“We missed Melanie B, she wasn’t there, sadly. But, the four of us, the rest of us were there and it was so lovely. And you know what it’s like. It was a big birthday, so you feel very nostalgic,” she continued. “We’re probably closer now than we have been in a very long time and I’m always keeping my fingers crossed.”
Mel – whose full name is Melanie Chisolm – maintains a close bond with her fellow Spice Girls, all of whom she’s fiercely loyal to. Meeting up with Geri, Victoria and Emma to celebrate the latter’s 50th birthday last week, the quartet posted together for a photo on Instagram. “The most beautiful night celebrating our @emmaleebunton over 30 years of friendship, love you all more than ever,” Mel wrote in the caption.
Taking to the comments section, Victoria was among the first to reply, writing: “Love u so much.”
The ‘Beckham family feud’
Emma’s birthday party occurred a matter of days after Victoria and her husband, David Beckham, were heavily criticised in a six-page Instagram statement released by their oldest son, Brooklyn. Taking to the platform on Monday 19 January, the 26-year-old declared that he had no desire to “reconcile” with his family. “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life,” Brooklyn began.
“For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.”
Claiming this his parents had been trying to “ruin” his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz Beckham, particularly in the run up their wedding in 2022, Brooklyn added: “My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we’ve tried to come together as one.” Read the full statement below.
