Meet Uma Thurman’s lookalike children who have followed in her footsteps

Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke were one of Hollywood’s ‘It’ couples back in the day. The couple, who were respective starts of the silver screen, welcomed their first child, daughter Maya, in July 1998 – two months on from their wedding. 

Maya, 27, was five when her parents split in 2005. After growing up with parents were you in the business, Maya ended up following in their footsteps and going into acting. 

Her first role was at 19 in the 2017 BBC’s Little Women miniseries adaptation, in which she played Jo March. But her breakout role came in 2019 when she joined the third season of the hit Netflix series, Stranger Things, as Robin.

She’s since shared the screen with both her parents, starring in the 2020 series The Good Lord Bird with her dad Ethan, and the 2023 film The Kill Room with her mum Uma.

“In the end, she is such a brilliant actress, obviously there’s nothing else she would have ever done,” Uma said about her daughter going into acting in a 2022 interview with Access Hollywood. 

“Her talent was so big. It’s what she had to do.”

Maya is set to star in the highly-anticipated and star-studded Hunger Games film, Sunrise on the Reaping, in November. She is also a singer-songwriter and has released three studio albums as well as a 2024 EP called Clipped Wings.

Uma and Ethan welcomed their second child, son Levon, in 2002. Just like his parents and older sister, Levon, 24, has gone down the acting route. 

He’s starred in the 2023 thriller, The Crowded Room, Zoe Kravitz’s Blink Twice, the western thriller The Thicket, and most recently, the Oscar-nominated film Marty Supreme. 

During an appearance on Seth Meyers’ talk show in June 2025, Uma opened up about seeing both her older children make their off-Broadway debuts. Levon appeared in the 2025 production of Ghosts at Lincoln Center Theatre. 

“As a mother, you know, honestly, I’m so proud of them and they’re so together, and honestly, seeing your kids kind of surpass you is awesome,” she told the talk show host. 

“I think they’re so talented. And so you’re always anxious that the circumstances all support the best outcome. The only thing that makes me nervous is I want them to have the best circumstances.”

As well as acting, Levon has collaborated with his sister Maya on music, co-writing multiple tracks on her 2024 album, Chaos Angel.

Uma also has a 13-year-old daughter from a previous relationship after her split from Ethan in the mid-2000s. 

The Kill Bill star was in a relationship with French hedge fund manager Arpad Busson from 2007, and got engaged in 2008. They split in 2009 before getting engaged again in 2011 before calling it quits a second time in 2014. 

During their on-and-off relationship, Uma and Arpad welcomed a daughter, Luna Thurman-Busson, in July 2012. The couple went through a custody battle that lasted several years before Uma was granted primary physical custody in 2017. 

While she goes by Luna, Uma’s daughter’s full name is actually Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Thurman-Busson. 

“[Maya] came up with the best excuse, which was that I probably wouldn’t get to have any more children, so I just put every name that I liked into [Luna’s],” she explained in an interview with Jimmy Fallon. 

“We couldn’t quite agree on the name, so we call her Luna. She’s lucky that way.”

Luna has joined her mum in public on occasion. The mother-daughter duo were pictured together in June 2025 for the opening night of Maya’s play, Eurydice. 

The actress enjoyed a rare joint public outing with all three of her children at the New York premiere of Asteroid City in June 2023.

“I’m madly in love with all of my children and very proud of them. I think they conduct themselves with a lot of dignity and respect for others. It’s all a parent could dream of,” Uma said of being a mum in a 2020 interview with People.
