Meet Tom Selleck’s parents – including his actor father who appeared alongside him in Magnum P.I

Born in December 1921 in Lapeer, Michigan, Robert ‘Bob’ D. Selleck made a living as a San Fernando Valley real estate developer. He also participated on several planning committees including the Southern California Committee for the 1984 Olympic Games.

He shared the screen with his famous son on two occasions, guest starring on Hawaii-based detective classic Magnum, P.I. in 1985 during the series’ sixth season as Grandpa Everett, and again with an uncredited appearance in 1987.

Martha Jean Jagger was born on 13 January 1921. She worked as president of the Motion Picture Mothers organisation for 18 years, donating to the running of Woodland Hills home and hospital for retired entertainment workers. 

She was married to Robert for almost 60 years and out-lived all of her eight siblings, passing at the age of 96 in 2017.

Martha and Robert welcomed four children during their marriage, Daniel, Tom, Robert and Martha. While Tom has found fame worthy of a Hollywood Star, his siblings have chosen a life away from the spotlight.

Like their father, oldest son Robert and youngest Selleck sibling Daniel have both found success in the real estate business, while sister Martha went into education and became a teacher.

Tom Selleck has tied the knot twice, wedding model and actress Jacqueline Ray in 1971. The couple split 11 years later, parting ways in 1982 reportedly due to his rising stardom. 

He remarried five years after their separation, saying ‘I do’ to former actress and dancer Jillie Mack in 1987, four years after they began dating, and the pair have been happily married every since.  

As well as remaining busy on-screen, Tom is kept on his toes as a father of two. He adopted son Kevin Selleck while dating Jacqueline Ray, who welcomed her son during a previous relationship. Kevin briefly appeared on Magnum, P.I. credited as ‘Grandson’. 

Tom later welcomed a daughter, Hannah Margaret Selleck, in 1988 with wife Jillie Mack. Hannah works as a professional equestrian and model. She also owns her own training boutique.

The Blue Bloods star is still active on the red carpet and big screen today. He starred on 293 episodes of the crime series during his 14 years on the show and has also made a name for himself with hits like Three Men and a Baby, a guest appearance on Friends and Kevin Kline comedy In & Out.

According to his IMDb, Tom is set to continue starring in the Jesse Stone TV movie franchise, with an upcoming project adding to an already extensive series of features including Lost in Paradise, Benefit of the Doubt and Innocents Lost.
