Robert Carradineâs family is remembering him fondly following his passing.
On Tuesday, February 24, the Revenge of the Nerds actorâs family confirmed his death at 71, revealing that he took his own life after a âvaliantâ two-decade battle with bipolar disorder.
In a statement to HELLO!, his family shared: âIt is with profound sadness that we must share that our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and brother Robert Carradine has passed away. In a world that can feel so dark, Bobby was always a beacon of light to everyone around him.â
âWe are bereft at the loss of this beautiful soul and want to acknowledge Bobbyâs valiant struggle against his nearly two-decade battle with Bipolar Disorder. We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness. At this time we ask for privacy to grieve this unfathomable loss. With gratitude for your understanding and compassion,â it added.
Robertâs family life
Robert comes from a storied family of actors, the youngest son of the late John Carradine, who passed away aged 82 in 1988, and a brother to Bruce (1933-2016), David (1936-2009), Christopher (born 1947), and Keith (born 1949).
He is his fatherâs third child with late actress Sonia Sorel, to whom the House of Dracula actor was married from 1944 to 1957. Sonia passed away aged 83 in 2004.
Robertâs ex-wife and children
Robert was only 20 years old when he first became a father, welcoming daughter Ever Carradine, also an actress, with fellow actress Susan Snyder, who left acting for a life in Vermont, and now lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and goes by Suzenne Marie Seradwyn.
In a tribute on Instagram remembering him, Ever wrote: âMy sweet, funny dad, whoâs only 20 years older than I am, who never missed an opportunity to drive me to the airport or tell me how much he loved my homemade salad dressing, is gone.â
She also noted that Robert parented as a single dad, writing: âGrowing up in the â70s and [â80s] with a single dad in Laurel Canyon is not exactly the recipe for a grounded childhood, but somehow mine was. Whenever anyone asks me how I turned out so normal, I always tell them itâs because of my dad. I knew my dad loved me, I knew it deep in my bones, and I always knew he had my back. I think itâs partly because we basically grew up together.â
In 1990, Robert married Edie Mani, with whom he shares kids Marika and Ian. The former couple had a contentious divorce in 2018, which was preceded by accusations on behalf of Edie that Robert had allegedly attempted to kill them in a 2015 Colorado car crash; Robert in turn claimed that he was in a state of acute psychosis at the time of the accident, because Edith had allegedly cut off his bipolar medication, reports at the time indicated.Â
