Martin Blencowe, the cofounder of the once billion dollar company Cameo, donated $10,000 to a GoFundMe to support James Van Der Beek’s family after the actor passed away.
The news of James’ passing was announced on February 11. He died after a long battle with stage 3 colorectal cancer, leaving behind his wife Kimberly and their six children. Shortly after the announcement was made, Kimberly’s friend set up a GoFundMe page.
She wrote: “Throughout his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial strain as they did everything possible to support James and provide for his care.”
The message continued: “In the wake of this loss, Kimberly and the children are facing an uncertain future. The costs of James’s medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family out of funds. They are working hard to stay in their home and to ensure the children can continue their education and maintain some stability during this incredibly difficult time.
“The support of friends, family, and the wider community will make a world of difference as they navigate the road ahead.”
As of 5 p.m. ET on February 11, the campaign has raised $310k towards its goal of $350k, with many donations in the double digits. Martin Blencowe is just one of several $10k donations.
The 40-year-old producer, actor, and Cameo co-founder wrote to Instagram after James’ death was announced, writing: “I got to meet [James] last year at his home in Texas. I can say that he and his wife have a beautiful relationship. I saw a GoFundMe page [was started]. Please, please make a donation. I just did. I know it will mean a lot to the family. James, from my interaction with him, was a lovely, kind human being, and he will be greatly missed.”
In his career in Hollywood, Martin has served as the executive producer on over 14 projects, working with stars like Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sylvester Stallone. In 2016, he founded Cameo alongside Steven Galanis and Devon Townsend.
The app that let users pay for customized messages from celebrities was valued at $1 billion in 2021, but plummeted 90% in early 2024.
Outside of his career, Martin lives in Bel Air with his wife and high-school sweetheart, Lucinda, and their twin daughters – Sabrina and Savannah. He is also an avid runner. In November 2025, he shared to Instagram that he ran two marathons, including the New York City Marathon, in three weeks.
He wrote: “To Lucinda, Savannah, and Sabrina. This is Daddy. It’s three in the morning. I’m tired, my body hurts, and I’m cranky — but I just want you to know how much I love you all. I wish you were here with me.”
