Hilary Duff has been doing the rounds lately. Her recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast and her first studio album is over a decade – luck… or something – has put the Lizzie McGuire star firmly back in the spotlight. The new album comes full of details on the actress’ private life, from her relationship with her parents to the unexplained rift with sister Haylie.
But who is Haylie Duff and when did these rumours start? We’re looking into the life of the former child star’s sister, from her famous partner to her own onscreen career.

Who is Haylie Duff?
Haylie Duff is the older sister of Noughties icon Hilary Duff (A Cinderella Story, Lizzie McGuire, The Perfect Man). She was born on 19 February 1985 to parents Susan and Bob Duff. Haylie, like her younger sister, is an actress and singer, and has appeared in the likes of Napoleon Dynamite (2004) and Material Girls (2006).
Since her Noughties heyday, Haylie has continued her TV career. Her last credited performance was 2025’s TV movie Pretty Hurts, which, at the time, was her first credited role for two years.
Haylie got engaged to partner Matt in 2014 and the couple share two children. She has lived in her Texas hometown since 2021. The actress has also worked as a director too, performing Material Girls’ titular track alongside sister Hilary.

Inside her relationship
Haylie Duff announced her engagement to Matt Rosenberg in 2014 after around 18 months of dating and the couple have remained together ever since. In a post on her food blog The Real Girl’s Kitchen, she wrote: “Matt just took me by total surprise and proposed… on April Fool’s Day of all days! The moment was genuine and sweet (like him!) and I couldn’t wait to say yes!” She shared, “We are so excited and happy to share our wonderful news with everyone!”
While the news that Haylie was expectinh their first child, Ryan, delayed the couple’s wedding, they don’t seem in any rush to get hitched, happily parenting their two young children. She told People magazine in 2014: “It still shocks me! It’s not even normal. I still call him my boyfriend, and he, every once in a while, is like, ‘Babe, I’m your fiancé.’ ”

The actress opened up to HELLO! in 2024 about ensuring she works to inspire her two young daughters. “Working in this business really inspired my creativity, but also made me very resilient,” she revealed. “Having that confidence to take chances and be brave is something I’m really proud of and something I’m hoping will inspire my daughters as they grow up.”

Estrangement from sister Hilary Duff
Haylie and sister Hilary have been making headlines recently, as rumours of a long-term strain persist. Hilary has confirmed track ‘We Don’t Talk’ focuses on her relationship with her sister. In an interview on CBS Mornings, she said: “It’s definitely about my sister, and just — absolutely the most lonely part of my existence is not having my sister in my life at the moment.”
The famously close sisters haven’t been seen publicly together since 2019. ‘We Don’t Talk’ includes lyrics such as “Don’t know when it happened / Not even sure what it was about” and “People ask me how you’re doing / I wanna say amazing, but the truth is that I don’t know”.

Early childhood
The sisters grew up in Texas, raised by parents Susan and Robert Duff. They moved to Los Angeles and found fame onscreen: Hilary led Disney Channel’s iconic Lizzie McGuire franchise and Haylie appeared regularly on 7th Heaven for its last two seasons.
Haylie has since returned to her hometown, something she says she always planned to do but which was hastened by the pandemic. In 2023, two years after the move, she told People: “We love our neighbourhood, we love our school and our friends here, and our kids are really happy here. It feels like everything just fell into place the way that it was supposed to.”

Acting career
Haylie’s career began with an uncredited part in True Woman (1997) and she went on to guest star in three episodes of The Lizzie McGuire series alongside sister Hilary. It was Napoleon Dynamite (2004) that truly launched her career and two years later she and Hilary headed up Material Girls (2006).
The actress went on to appear in 32 episodes of 7th Heaven as Sandy Jameson. Most recently, she starred in Pretty Hurts (2025), the story of a girl who enters a beauty pageant just as her best friend falls ill. Haylie has also worked as a singer, songwriter, television host and designer.
