Stranger Things star Maya Hawke is married after saying “I do” to Christian Lee Hutson on Valentine’s Day.
Hawke, 27, and Hutson, 35, exchanged vows on Saturday, February 14, in New York City, according to photos obtained by People. The bride looked elegant in a white ballgown with a matching cropped jacket, while Hutson sported a classic black tuxedo.
The newlyweds were celebrated by Maya’s famous parents, exes Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, and several of her Stranger Things costars, including Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer and Joe Keery.
Maya and Hutson did not publicly disclose their engagement before walking down the wedding aisle, but the pair often collaborated on music over the years.
“The first song from Maya’s new record, Chaos Angel, is out now,” Hutson wrote via Instagram in February 2024. “I love this song. I love this record. Can’t wait to share the rest of it.”
Weeks later, Maya returned the favor with her own social media tribute.
“I am lucky enough to know this guy,” she wrote via Instagram in July 2024. “He is a poet, [and a] musical genius, who is announcing his third and best album ever Paradise Pop. 10. I was lucky enough to get to write with him on some of this incredible music.”
Maya and Hutson started dating amid their professional collaboration and four-year friendship.
“It’s awesome. I cannot recommend highly enough dating your friends. It’s the best,” Maya gushed during a June 2024 appearance on The Zach Sang Show. “They know you, and as a human being who has dated other people.”
She continued, “They really know you as a person who has feelings … not just a piece of paper for them to project their image of perfect girlfriend onto. It’s the best to feel seen in that way [and] to feel like someone you’re falling in love with can help you work on a song.”
Maya’s parents, Thurman and Ethan, were married from 1998 to 2005, during which they welcomed her and son Levon Hawke. (Ethan, 55, also shares two daughters with wife Ryan Shawhughes Hawke, while Thurman, also 55, is mom to another daughter from a past relationship.)
“I’m proud of them for so many reasons that have nothing to do with [their acting careers],” Ethan exclusively told Us Weekly in January of his eldest children following in his parents’ acting footsteps. “They’re wonderful people, and they’re going to find their own way.”
Maya, meanwhile, has tried to carve her own niche in Hollywood despite Ethan and Thurman’s respective legacies.
“I had a great acting teacher at drama school who gave me this piece of advice: don’t let your habit be your only choice,” she told Hong Kong Vogue in a profile published last month. “I think, a lot of the time, the Duffers wrote Robin [on Stranger Things as] inspired by my most nervous version of myself, which was, you know, the young woman who was on the show for the first time joining in season 3. I was so nervous around them, and then I think they really wrote Robin inspired by that nervousness.”
She continued, “I think it really allowed me to learn how I was coming off to people, and reflect on my desire to come off as less nervous. I tend to have more options in my bag of tricks than sort of just buoyant enthusiasm. I wanted to have a more grounded sense of myself and my behavior at work, and a more diverse bag of tricks as an actor.”
