Matthew McConaughey got loud.
The actor name-dropped Jennifer Lopez, his âWedding Plannerâ co-star, during a âmajor mess-up in Mexico,â he confessed on the âHappy, Sad, Confusedâ podcast Thursday.
âIâm crossing the border, going way down south, and I get pulled over,â the 56-year-old told listeners. âItâs one of those pullovers where they noticed me.â
McConaughey quipped that since he is a âgringo in a ⊠nice truck,â he got âthat dress downâ and thought, âOh geez, get the wallet out. Here we go.â
As the interaction âwas going down,â the Golden Globe winner asked, âYou guys know Jennifer Lopez? Ever seen âWedding Planner?ââ
The âTrue Detectiveâ alum remembered, âThey were like, âOh!â They went off. We end up taking pictures together, and they let me go.â
While McConaughey did not specify when the traffic stop took place, his and Lopezâs movie rom com came out in January 2001.
The duo reunited via Instagram Live in 2021 for the filmâs 20th anniversary, with Lopez raving over how much she âso enjoyed working withâ McConaughey.
âWe had such a nice rapport and chemistry,â she gushed. âWe were somewhat at the beginning of our careers at that time. It was exciting to be working on any movie. I still feel that way. It was a magical time.â
McConaughey, for his part, said, âI love your intentionality, I love how deliberate you are. You would have it down.â
He went on to praise the âLetâs Get Loudâ singer, 57, in a 2024 interview with People.
âIâve never seen someone be able to choreograph something so cleanly and clearly and actually hit the coordination of that scene,â the Oscar winner explained, dubbing Lopez âa worker.â
He noted, âShe knows what she wants to do, and she does what she needs to do to pull off what she wants to do.â
Elsewhere in Thursdayâs podcast episode, McConaughey dished on another of his hit movies from the early aughts â âHow to Lose a Guy in 10 Daysâ opposite Kate Hudson, which came out in February 2003.
He called the project âthe gift that keeps on givingâ as it has earned him the most residuals of any movie âby far.â
