Matthew McConaughey revealed that an erotic dream ultimately led him to the love of a lifetime in wife Camila Alves.
âIn my mid-30s, I was looking for a lifetime lover, a best friend, and a mother-to-be,â the âDallas Buyers Clubâ star wrote in his newsletter âLyrics of Livingâ on Friday, per Us Weekly.
âI was looking for more, I was looking for the one, I was looking for her,â he continued, adding, âThen I had a wet dream.â
The âMagic Mikeâ actor, 56, divulged that in the dream, he saw an aged version of himself in a rocking chair on the porch of his home, where there were 22 women, 22 vehicles and 88 children.
McConaughey recalled that he had fathered the 88 children, each representing a year of his life, as they gathered to celebrate his 88th birthday â though he hadnât married any of the 22 women.
âEach woman was serene and satisfied,â he wrote, per the outlet. âEvery child was smiling, laughing, and healthy. We all knew one another very well.â
âEach mother and I shared an idyllic memory, the children roosted upon my lap,â the âInterstellarâ star wrote.
âWe hugged, we kissed, we laughed and joked, we cried tears of happiness,â he continued.
âThey all gathered around me on the porch for a family photograph, and we looked toward a large-format box camera on a tripod at the top of the driveway. Three! Two! One! Then I came.â
The Oscar winner said the âbeautiful dreamâ reminded him that his goal in life was to become a father â but also helped him see heâd be fine without taking the plunge.
âThe red light vision of being a lifelong bachelor had come to me in a greenlight wet dream,â he wrote.
âIt was a spiritual sign, a message to surrender, to quit trying so intentionally to find the perfect woman for me, and, rather, concede to the natural selection process of finding her, her finding me, or not.â
He added, âSo I quit looking for her.â
It was after he gave up the dedicated search that wife Camila Alves, 42, came into his life, he wrote.
âThree months later, I met Camila,â he divulged. âTwenty years later sheâs still the only woman Iâve ever wanted to take on a date, sleep with, or wake up next to.â
The longtime couple were first linked in 2006 after meeting at West Hollywood nightclub Hyde.
They welcomed son Levi in 2008, daughter Vida in 2010, and son Livingston in 2012 â the same year they tied the knot.
In September, McConaughey revealed that it was actually his eldest son â then four â who helped convince the âHow to Lose a Guy in 10 Daysâ star to marry Alves.
McConaughey shared during an episode of Chris Williamsonâs âModern Wisdomâ podcast that Levi questioned why his mom and dad didnât share a last name. âIâm going through my head, âYouâre fâking 4, dude,ââ the actor recalled.
âI sat there. I was like, âItâs a great question, but I mean, weâre not married. When you get married, you switch your name,ââ he said.
McConaughey said his son asked if he was âscaredâ to make the commitment, and admitted to himself that he was.
McConaughey ultimately married Alves after seeking advice from a pastor and other âelder menâ who were âmarried for decades,â he shared.
