Matt Damon may be one of Hollywoodâs most recognizable stars, but one little girl at Disneyland had eyes for somebody else entirely.
The Oscar-winning actor, 55, has gone viral after he was unexpectedly spotted in the background of a familyâs heartwarming video, quietly watching as two-and-a-half-year-old Lucy met Goofy for the first time.
The sweet moment was captured by Lucyâs mom, content creator Loryn Powell, who was filming as her husband crouched beside their daughter while she eagerly reached towards the beloved Disney character.
What Loryn didnât initially notice was the Good Will Hunting star standing just feet away, casually dressed in beige pants, a dark button-down shirt and baseball cap.
With his arms folded, Matt watched the adorable encounter unfold before breaking into a huge smile as Goofy bent down to greet the little girl.
âPOV youâre watching your husband and daughter meet Goofy for the first time but donât realize Matt Damon is also watching your husband and daughter meet Goofy for the first time,â Loryn wrote over the video.
She later joked: âWhen your daughter is more starstruck by Goofy than Matt Damon.â
Matt Damonâs sweet reaction goes viral
The wonderfully ordinary moment quickly caught fansâ attention, particularly because Matt appeared perfectly happy to remain unnoticed in the background rather than interrupt the familyâs special experience.
Speaking about her daughterâs first visit to Disneyland, Loryn said it had already been an unforgettable occasion without its surprise A-list cameo.
âAs you can tell we love dressing up for a good theme so taking our 2.5 year old daughter to Disneyland for her first time was magical,â she told The California Post, adding: âEven if Matt Damon hadnât been there.â
There was another rather fitting reason the Hollywood star may have been particularly touched by the father-daughter moment: Matt is a devoted girl dad himself.
The actor and his wife of more than 20 years, Luciana Barroso, have four daughters, Alexia, 27, Isabella, 20, Gia, 18, and Stella, 15.
In fact, Matt was at Disneyland during the same week to celebrate a major milestone in his own family. He and Luciana brought their daughters to the Anaheim theme park to mark Giaâs 18th birthday on August 20, with the entire family embracing the occasion in matching Disney T-shirts.
Gia wore a âBirthday Girlâ shirt featuring Minnie Mouse ears, while Matt, Luciana and the rest of their daughters wore coordinating âBirthday Crewâ tops. It has not been confirmed whether Lorynâs video was filmed on the same day as the Damonsâ family celebration.
Matt Damonâs life as a dad to four daughters
Despite his decades-long career in Hollywood, Matt has consistently spoken about making family life a priority.
With his daughters now growing up and two already having left home, the actor recently admitted that he and Luciana are increasingly conscious of how quickly their time together is passing.
âWeâve been talking a lot about presence and about really trying to be in the moment,â he said, explaining that while it is impossible to slow down time, parents can make a conscious effort to âreally be there and be in it.â
One ritual remains particularly sacred in the Damon household. âWe have family dinner every night, and thatâs non-negotiable, and itâs always been that way,â he revealed to People last month.
Even Matt admits the family occasionally needs reminding of why the tradition matters. He recalled one of his daughters pointing out that they had sat together at dinner the previous evening but hadnât actually spoken, prompting them to reassess how much attention they were giving to phones and work.
The family now challenges each other to be more present and conscious of their screen time.
Mattâs parenting philosophy has also evolved as his daughters have grown older. Asked in 2024 for his advice on raising girls, he insisted there was no magic formula, saying he simply tries âto listen and be helpful,â adding that building their self-esteem is ultimately what matters.
And although he plays some of cinemaâs toughest characters, his daughters apparently have little trouble keeping their famous father grounded.
Matt has previously joked that Isabella deliberately avoids his movies if she suspects they might actually be good and once savagely reviewed his 2016 film The Great Wall by telling him: âDad, there was nothing great about that movie!â
Matt Damonâs growing family
Matt met Luciana in Miami in 2003 while he was filming Stuck on You. The couple married in 2005, and Matt became stepfather to Lucianaâs daughter Alexia before they welcomed Isabella, Gia and Stella together.
The family has largely remained away from the Hollywood spotlight, although the girls have increasingly accompanied their parents to premieres as they have grown older.
Most recently, Luciana, Gia and Stella joined Matt on the red carpet in Seoul for the South Korean premiere of Christopher Nolanâs The Odyssey.
His older daughters are also beginning to forge careers of their own. Alexia has worked as a photographer and videographer, including on Matt and Ben Affleckâs movie The Instigators, while Isabella has signed with IMG Models.
