Martin Short’s daughter Katherine has died at the age of 42. TMZ first reported the news, alleging that law enforcement sources shared that she died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was found in her Hollywood Hills home on Monday February 23.
“It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” a rep for Martin told HELLO!
“The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”
Katherine was the adopted daughter of Only Murders in the Building star Martin and his wife Nancy, who passed away in 2010.
Katherine worked as a social worker in Los Angeles after receiving her bachelor’s degree from New York University in psychology and gender sexuality studies, before she went on to earn her master’s in social work from the University of Southern California in 2010.
She interned at the pro bono law firm Public Counsel as well as training with the West L.A. Veterans Administration, before she worked for UCLA’s Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital.
Comedian Martin is father to three adopted children: Katherine, and sons Oliver and Henry. Nancy sadly died of ovarian cancer on August 21, 2010.
