Martha Stewart’s turkeys can relax this Thanksgiving.

The lifestyle expert told Today on Nov. 21 that she won’t be roasting any turkey this Turkey Day.

“Although I raise my own turkeys, they have been pardoned this year. We’re going to eat only vegetarian,” said the celebrity chef who shared her “delicious” Brioche Stuffing-Filled Roasted Pumpkin during the segment. She explained that the recipe comes from her latest cookbook, Martha: The Cookbook, and is perfect for her household because she has “a lot of vegetarians in [her] family.”

In fact, the pardoned turkeys and the rest of Stewart’s animals will have a quiet house (and barn) on Thanksgiving as the cookbook author will be traveling out of the country for the holiday.

“We’re going to Rome,” Stewart recently told PEOPLE. “We decided the kids wanted to go away, the grandchildren, and so we’re all packing up and going to Rome for a few days to visit the sites.”

Stewart is grandmother to Jude, 13, and Truman, 12, the children of her only daughter, Alexis Stewart.

“We have such an itinerary,” Martha added. “My grandchildren will get mad at me. They think they’re going on vacation for five days, but in fact, we are going to see everything. I’ve planned quite a trip.”

Stewart had her hands full at last year’s Thanksgiving. The star baked 30 pies over two days ahead of the holiday. The dozens of treats were made for “employees and their families,” according to an Instagram post shared about the baking extravaganza.

Stewart shocked fans earlier that same year by announcing that she had canceled her Thanksgiving dinner due to being “turkeyed out.”

In mid-November 2023, Stewart revealed her plans to pivot from hosting Thanksgiving to visiting five friends’ dinners after “nine guests canceled” on her own meal.
