Mark Consuelos reveals he’s undergoing “major” surgery

Mark Consuelos has revealed he is undergoing “major” surgery after living with a painful health issue for the past year.

The 55-year-old shared the unexpected update during Friday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, telling viewers that he was heading straight from the studio to have an operation on his toe.

“Today’s the day,” Mark announced on the September 25 show. “I’ve been putting off this toe surgery for about a year.”

His wife and co-host Kelly Ripa, 55, confirmed that she would be accompanying him for the procedure – although she couldn’t resist having some fun at her husband’s expense.

Kelly joked that she planned to film Mark as he emerged from the effects of the anaesthetic, telling him she wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to capture his “Propofol haze”.

Mark appeared unfazed by the prospect, admitting that people can say some “funny things” while recovering from the medication, while Kelly revealed she already has footage of him following a previous foot operation.

The TV host had also been fasting ahead of Friday’s surgery, something he admitted he wasn’t particularly enjoying.

Mark explained that he had not eaten since the previous day, while Kelly said she had never heard of somebody fasting for 24 hours before surgery.

“It’s dumb. I just want to eat!” Mark joked, adding that he could easily be persuaded to break his fast.

Initially joking that he was having the surgery so he could improve his golf game, he then clarified: “No, it’s arthritic, it’s bad. I need help. Yeah, it hurts.”

Kelly proceeded to tease her husband by telling the audience that he was “basically” having a pedicure – something Mark was quick to dispute.

“This is a major surgery,” he insisted, before jokingly describing the operation as being “like a C-section for your toe”.

It isn’t the first time Mark has undergone surgery on his foot. In 2024, the former Riverdale actor had another procedure after developing “turf toe” while playing soccer. His latest operation, however, is intended to address the arthritis that has been causing him ongoing pain.

The health update comes just months after Kelly underwent a procedure of her own. The longtime TV host had gum graft surgery over the summer after delaying it for several years, with Mark stepping in alongside guest co-host Kevin Jonas while she recovered.

Mark and Kelly, who first met while starring together on All My Children, have been married for 30 years and share three adult children: Michael, 29, Lola, 25, and Joaquin, 23.
