Madison Errichiello is dishing on her in-person meetup with Alex Brown after leaving the Love Is Blind pods single.
Fans saw Madison and Alex break up in the pods during season 8 of the hit Netflix series, but PEOPLE’s exclusive first look at the upcoming episode drop shows that things didn’t end there. In the clip, Madison chats with Lauren O’Brien at a cast gathering about what went down after leaving the pods.
“The first message I get is from Alex, and he’s like ‘Oh my f—ing God,’” Madison explains. “Basically, I think he just saw me finally…”
“And he was like, ‘What the f— did I just do?’” Lauren chimes in.
Madison then continues: “And he was like, ‘Meet me at the airport. Meet me at the airport.’ And I kept being like, ‘Did we not just break up?’ And he was like, ‘At least just give me a hug,’ and I was like, ‘Fine.’”
The two ultimately did meet at the airport, and Madison says that’s when Alex made a shocking offer.
“The whole time he’s just like, ‘Oh you are so beautiful, stay here with me in L.A.,’” she reveals. “I’m like, ‘We just broke up.’”
“You know what, I put my all into those pods and if it didn’t work then, it’s not gonna work now,” Madison says of her reasoning for turning Alex down. “But I could tell that he was very much like, ‘Let’s make this work.’”
The first few episodes of season 8 saw Madison and Alex develop a strong connection in the pods and even become boyfriend and girlfriend. However, Madison also had feelings for Mason Horacek and after ending things with him, she learned he had been saying the same things to her and fellow participant Meg Fink.
When Madison later told Alex about the situation, he refused to speak poorly about Mason and his reaction ultimately led her to end their relationship.
In an interview with PEOPLE earlier this month, Madison explained why Alex’s refusal to engage in that conversation with her — because he didn’t want to speak poorly about his friend Mason — upset her.
“He is so upbeat, and I did really like that. I like being around positive people,” she said. “But I think it got to a point where it was almost this toxic positivity, and that’s something that I just don’t want in my circle of people.”
“He’s on Mason’s side almost, and that just made me feel so invalidated,” she noted of Alex’s response. “I think Mason was the real-time example, but I started thinking to the future of, ‘Okay, if I come home from a really bad day, do I want to be told to look on the bright side? Or if I get in an argument with a friend, do I want to be told that they’re a good person?’ No. Because I can get there on my own.”
She concluded: “What I’m looking for in a partner is someone who’s able to sit in those heavy emotions and not feel uncomfortable by it and not feel like they have to push it away with positivity. And I think I saw that Alex did that often.”
