Hollywood is remembering famed director Rob Reiner following his death at age 78.

News broke in December 2025 that two people — a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman — were found dead at Reiner’s Brentwood, California, home. A spokesperson for the Reiner family later confirmed that Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, had been identified as the deceased.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a statement shared with Variety read at the time. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Details about their deaths were revealed in a press conference held by LAPD Deputy Chief Alan S. Hamilton. He confirmed that Rob and Michele were found with “apparent stab wounds,” noting that the LAPD had “not identified a suspect at this time” and were not pursuing a person of interest.

Hollywood is mourning the loss of acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. The couple were found dead inside their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles, on Sunday, December 14, with TMZ reporting that Rob, 78, and Michele “suffered lacerations consistent with a knife.” Rob and Michele’s family broke their silence late Sunday […]

Us Weekly confirmed one day after Rob and Michele’s deaths that their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, had been arrested on a murder charge.

Rob has been a fixture in Hollywood since the 1960s since he kicked off his acting career. Along with being a decorated director, Rob has had some memorable roles over the years. Even Millennials remember his Hannah Montana cameo in 2009.

Keep scrolling to look back at some of Rob’s best acting roles through the years:

‘All in the Family’

Rob famously appeared as Michael “Meathead” Stivic in the 1970s ABC sitcom. His character was Archie Bunker’s (Carroll O’Connor) live-in son-in-law — and they were constantly at odds. Rob appeared in a total of 174 episodes during the show’s run, from 1971 to 1979.

‘This Is Spinal Tap’

Along with directing the 1984 film, Rob also appeared in the film as Marty Di Bergi, a documentary filmmaker following the fictional band Spinal Tap as they tour America.

He reprised the role for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which was released in September 2025.

‘Sleepless in Seattle’

Rob took on the role of Jay Mathews in the 1993 rom-com, also starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Rob’s role of Jay acts as the matchmaker for Hanks’ Sam Baldwin, essentially setting the events of the movie in motion.

One of the movie’s more notable moments features Rob discussing tiramisu with Hanks.

‘New Girl’

While he only had a 10-episode stint on the show, Rob made an impression with New Girl fans as Bob Day, the father of Zooey Deschanel’s character, Jessica Day.

‘The Wolf of Wall Street’

Rob acted alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2013 film. The late filmmaker appeared as Max Belfort, DiCaprio’s character Jordan Belfort’s dad. He was alternately known as “Mad Max” in the movie because as Jordan notes during one scene, he had a “hair-trigger temper.”

One of the more quoted moments from the movie features Rob and Jonah Hill (Donnie Azoff) discussing the astronomical credit card bill racked up by the men of Stratton Oakmont.

“What kind of hooker takes credit cards?” Rob as Max asks.

‘The Bear’

Season 4 of the Hulu show had Rob making a cameo as Albert Schnur, a business consultant brought in by Ebraheim (Edwin Lee Gibson) to focus on making The Beef’s sandwich window a success.
