Based on Laura’s enduring novels about a pioneering family growing up in the American Midwest during the late 1800s, the new series aims to introduce a fresh generation to the Ingalls family while honoring the heartwarming spirit that made the story a cultural phenomenon.

Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine expressed her excitement about continuing the journey even before audiences have seen the first episode.

“I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive,” she said in a statement. “We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world, and we’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story.”

The reboot stars Alice Halsey (Lessons in Chemistry) as the spirited young heroine Laura Ingalls, whose childhood adventures inspired Wilder’s novels. She is joined by Skywalker Hughes (I, Object) as Laura’s thoughtful older sister Mary.

Australian actor Luke Bracey (Hacksaw Ridge) steps into the role of the beloved patriarch Charles “Pa” Ingalls, while Crosby Fitzgerald (Crime 101) portrays Caroline “Ma” Ingalls, the family’s steadfast matriarch.

According to Netflix, the series blends several genres – combining heartfelt family drama with the sweeping scale of a survival story set during America’s westward expansion. At its core, however, it remains a deeply personal tale about family bonds, resilience and the challenges of building a life on the frontier.

“With its hopeful spirit and emotional authenticity, we’re confident that Little House will deliver even more of what fans truly love,” said Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of US and Canada scripted series.

For longtime fans of the original television series – which ran from 1974 to 1983 and starred Melissa Gilbert as Laura – the new adaptation offers a nostalgic return to Walnut Grove. But it also promises a broader retelling of Wilder’s frontier world, bringing new depth and perspective to one of America’s most cherished family stories.
