Kurt Russell shared how his latest role in The Madison was a perfect reflection of his life with his longtime love, Goldie Hawn, whom he has been dating since 1983.
The 75-year-old spoke to Menâs Health about the series, which was created by the mind behind Yellowstone, Taylor Sheridan. In the show, he portrays Preston Clyburn, the late husband of Michelle Pfeifferâs Stacy Clyburn, whose untimely passing prompts Stacy to move from NYC to Montana. Â
âSome of the conversations that [Preston and Stacy] have, Iâve had,â Kurt told the publication. âGoldie and I have had very similar conversations. Their relationship, itâs the kind of relationship you almost never see anymore. Itâs a truly loving relationship. Itâs not like thereâs another shoe to drop. Thatâs what makes it so difficult for [Michelleâs] character when she loses her husband.â
âSheâs realizing how much more they could have had that they didnât have because of something she didnât do,â he continued. âI think a lot of people relate to that kind of regret.â
âAs you get older and youâve only got so much time left, that doubles things up in terms of looking at what youâve done in your life so far and what you want to do with the rest of your life.â
The father of four added that it was important to see a relationship play out onscreen that was strong and steadfast, despite his characterâs tragic end. âItâs different in that youâre seeing a relationship that is actually a successful one. You donât see that much anymore,â he explained.
âItâs always dysfunction, dysfunction, dysfunction, and I thought this was very different. Having been in a long relationship, myself, with Goldie, and Michelle having been in a long relationship with her husband, David E. Kelley, whoâs a great writer in his own right, we were bringing the right experience together.â

Kurt and Goldie first crossed paths on the set of the 1968 film The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band, when he was 16, and she was 21, yet the actress thought he was much too young.
The pair reunited 17 years later while filming Swing Shift in 1983, and have been together ever since, yet never married. They share a son, Wyatt Russell, and while Goldie is a devoted stepmom to Kurtâs son, Boston Russell, Kurt is a loving stepdad to Goldieâs kids, Kate and Oliver Hudson. Â Â
The Hateful Eight star shared with Menâs Health that Stacy and Prestonâs relationship in The Madison was not the only aspect that he could connect with on the show.Â
âI moved to Colorado when I was 26 years old. At a certain point, you find yourself asking whether youâre going to live the life you want to live, or if youâre just going to talk about it,â he said. âAnd I decided to make the move and live the life I wanted to live.â
âBut my business was still primarily out of Los Angeles, so my lifeâs been split, going back and forth. Iâm glad I did what I did,â Kurt continued. âIâve enjoyed my life the way Iâve wanted to, and Iâve been able to continue on in the business too. I was able to make that happen. I could draw on that in The Madison.â
