Kurt Russell and his son, Wyatt Russell, are starring alongside each other in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season Two. The pair appeared on the February 27 episode of the TODAY Show to discuss the project and how they manage their father-and-son dynamic on set.
The 74-year-old was caught off guard by a playful video message from his daughter, Kate Hudson, who jokingly pressed her father on which co-star he prefers ā her or her brother, Wyatt. Kate previously Ā starred alongside Kurt in the 2016 action movie Deepwater Horizon.
āQuestion for my dad, youāve now worked with two of your children for a collective millisecond on screen and Iām just curious who your favourite scene partner is?ā asked Kate.
Wyatt was the first to jump in, answering on his fatherās behalf that he already knew the response would be Kate. āI can answer that question. Sheās been nominated for two Academy Awards and Iāve been nominated for a Teen Choice Award,ā said Wyatt.
Kurt went on to confirm Wyattās suspicion, Ā though his reasoning turned out to be different from what Wyatt had in mind. āThatās an easy question to answer,ā he shared. āThere was a scene where we used ear wicks to talk to each other and heās a lot tougher as heād say things like, āPa just donāt say thatā. āOk, what do you think I should say?ā āWhatever you come up with, just donāt say that,'ā said Kurt.
Kateās mom, Goldie Hawn, was married to Bill Hudson from 1976 to 1982, during which they welcomed two children, Kate and son Oliver Hudson. The siblings had a complicated relationship with Bill, who Goldie previously described as an āabsentee father.ā Kate and Oliver were primarily raised by Goldie and her partner of over 40 years, Kurt, whom they refer to as their āPa.ā Goldie and Kurt welcomed their son, Wyatt Russell, in 1986.
Kate has received a nod in the category of Best Actress for her role in Song Sung Blue. Her name is alongside Rose Byrne in If I Had Legs Iād Kick You, Renate Reinsve in Sentimental Value, Emma Stone in Bugonia, and Jessie Buckley in Hamnet.
During an interview with E! News, Kurt gushed over the exciting news. āItās just fun to see,ā he shared. āFor us as a family, itās almost for me, itās like watching an actress in full. Itās watching her reach, totally reachable any potential, which was a lot that she had and to do it so slickly, and so smoothly, and so invisibly in that character, so easily.ā
