Kurt Russell and his son, Wyatt Russell, are starring alongside each other in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season Two. The pair appeared on the February 27 episode of the TODAY Show to discuss the project and how they manage their father-and-son dynamic on set.
The 74-year-old was caught off guard by a playful video message from his daughter, Kate Hudson, who jokingly pressed her father on which co-star he prefers â her or her brother, Wyatt. Kate previously  starred alongside Kurt in the 2016 action movie Deepwater Horizon.
âQuestion for my dad, youâve now worked with two of your children for a collective millisecond on screen and Iâm just curious who your favourite scene partner is?â asked Kate.
Wyatt was the first to jump in, answering on his fatherâs behalf that he already knew the response would be Kate. âI can answer that question. Sheâs been nominated for two Academy Awards and Iâve been nominated for a Teen Choice Award,â said Wyatt.
Kurt went on to confirm Wyattâs suspicion, Â though his reasoning turned out to be different from what Wyatt had in mind. âThatâs an easy question to answer,â he shared. âThere was a scene where we used ear wicks to talk to each other and heâs a lot tougher as heâd say things like, âPa just donât say thatâ. âOk, what do you think I should say?â âWhatever you come up with, just donât say that,'â said Kurt.
Kateâs mom, Goldie Hawn, was married to Bill Hudson from 1976 to 1982, during which they welcomed two children, Kate and son Oliver Hudson. The siblings had a complicated relationship with Bill, who Goldie previously described as an âabsentee father.â Kate and Oliver were primarily raised by Goldie and her partner of over 40 years, Kurt, whom they refer to as their âPa.â Goldie and Kurt welcomed their son, Wyatt Russell, in 1986.
Kate has received a nod in the category of Best Actress for her role in Song Sung Blue. Her name is alongside Rose Byrne in If I Had Legs Iâd Kick You, Renate Reinsve in Sentimental Value, Emma Stone in Bugonia, and Jessie Buckley in Hamnet.
During an interview with E! News, Kurt gushed over the exciting news. âItâs just fun to see,â he shared. âFor us as a family, itâs almost for me, itâs like watching an actress in full. Itâs watching her reach, totally reachable any potential, which was a lot that she had and to do it so slickly, and so smoothly, and so invisibly in that character, so easily.â
