Krispy Kreme is giving back to those who give back.

The doughnut chain is showing first responders “sweet gratitude for their hard work and sacrifice,” according to a press release. On First Responders Day (Monday, Oct. 28), Krispy Kreme is giving out “a free small coffee, hot or iced, and free doughnut of their choice in-shop or at drive thru, no purchase necessary.”

Firs responders are limited to one free doughnut, and doughnuts from the Krispy Kreme x Ghostbusters collaboration are not part of the offer.

First Responders Day was first designated by Congress as Oct. 28 in 2017 in honor of paramedics, EMTs, firefighters, police officers and 911 operators.

This First Responders Day giveaway is hardly Krispy Kreme’s first time giving away sweet treats to the community. They’ve previously offered a number of free doughnuts to students getting A’s in school, people who were impacted by the global IT outage, voters hitting the polls on Super Tuesday and many more.

They’ve also offered tons of free treats and deals in celebration of various holidays, including everything from Independence Day, Friday the 13th, St. Patrick’s Day and more — as well as the lesser-known but essential holidays, including National Coffee Day and National Doughnut Day.

For Halloween 2024, Krispy Kreme is offering customers a free glazed doughnut, no purchase necessary, but all customers must be wearing their Halloween costume at the store to participate.

The chain is also offering tons of special season doughnut varieties this year — including its Ghostbusters-themed doughnuts, which feature four different sweets and a neon drink.

Those include a Ghostbusters Cookies N’ Creme Doughnut, an Ecto-Sprinkled Doughnut, the Slimer Doughnut and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Doughnut pull-apart, which has a gooey marshmallow center. The collaboration also includes Slimer’s Slime-ade — a green twist on lemonade. The items will all be available at Krispy Kreme until Halloween.

Other seasonal items this year include fall flavored-treats, including the Maple Buttercreme Doughnut, Oatmeal Kreme Pie Doughnut and Salted Caramel Cheesecake Doughnut — as well as the return of the fan-favorite Spiced Apple Filled Doughnut.
