Kim Kardashian isn’t the only Kardashian sister injecting some fish into her skincare routine.

Khloé Kardashian, 40, revealed in the March 20 episode of The Kardashians that she incorporates “salmon sperm”— which is thought to have antiaging benefits — into her skincare routine.

The Good American co-founder made the admission while chatting with her glam team during a shoot for her new fragrance. However, she also shared that she draws the line when it comes to putting the DNA of other sea creatures in her face.

“I’m never gonna do whale sperm,” she quipped to her team when the conversation turned to the creatures.

Her sister Kim, 44, previously made headlines for also incorporating salmon sperm into her beauty routine. During an episode of The Kardashians last year, she admitted that she has done the salmon sperm facial — previously made famous by Jennifer Aniston, 56.

“I got a salmon sperm facial with salmon sperm injected into my face,” Kim revealed to her mom, Kris Jenner, while the family was shooting their promos for the Hulu show.

While she didn’t say whether the treatment worked to rejuvenate her face, Aniston previously admitted to WSJ. Magazine in August 2023 that an aesthetician put her onto the salmon sperm facials.

“First of all, I said, ‘Are you serious? How do you get salmon’s sperm?’ ” she told the outlet, before noting that she hadn’t seen much results from the facial. Though, she added that she believed it to be “the future” of antiaging skincare.

The treatment involves microneedling the skin on a person’s face with the salmon sperm (which can be injected with hyaluronic acid according to Dr. Gabriel Chiu who spoke with Variety in September 2024 about the trend).

The fish’s reproductive cells have been shown “to improve skin, hydration, plumpness, texture, and wrinkles,” New York City-based dermatologist Joshua Zeichner, MD, previously told PopSugar.

“The effects on the skin are thought to be due to high DNA levels. DNA is composed of amino acids, which have long been used in skin care for their hydrating and cell-renewing benefits,” Dr. Zeichner added.

However, salmon sperm comes with a list of pros and cons, as aesthetician Nerida Joy also told PopSugar that the facial can be too overbearing for someone with acne-prone skin. There is also not a lot of data to back it up and it’s not yet approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
