Kevin Bacon has built up an impressive acting résumé throughout his long career.

Since making his feature film debut in 1978’s National Lampoon’s Animal House, the 66-year-old actor has gone on to become a household name. His credits now include Footloose, Friday the 13th, Apollo, The Following, Tremors and Crazy, Stupid, Love. His efforts as Michael Strobl in Taking Chance allowed him to become a Golden Globe Award and Screen Actors Guild Award winner.

On top of that, he has been making music as part of The Bacon Brothers alongside brother Michael since the ’90s.

As his “fun” new project, Prime Video’s action-horror series The Bondsman, is now streaming, Bacon tells PEOPLE exclusively of what’s next for his career: “No slow down for me!”

“It’s funny because I feel like a lot of people, obviously, who are my age are happy to stop, slow down or play golf or whatever. I think I’m more, to a fault maybe, I’m just more driven than ever,” he says. “There’s so many things that I still want to do as an actor, as a musician, as a writer. Not as a writer, but a songwriter. As a director, no. I have no plans to slow down.”

“What’s next? I don’t know. Shockingly, I’ve hung in there long enough that I am always amazed that I still get offered things,” he continues. “It’s just something I never take for granted. And the opportunities are there. They’ve been coming. They seem to continue to come.”

Even with all his success, Bacon, interestingly enough, doesn’t see himself as a leading man at this stage of his career.

“What I feel so grateful about, besides just being able to make a living as an actor, is that the opportunities that I get because I’ve made, or the business made the decision for me to become a character actor as opposed to a leading man,” he shares.

“Well, I do sometimes [lead projects], but I think that I don’t just do that. And as a result, if I look at the two characters just that are in the can between MaXXXine and Beverly Hills Cop, these are two men that could not be more different,” he continues. “They are completely different characters and completely different tones in terms of the movie and the kind of movie that they are. And I got a chance to do both of them and have them both come out in the same year. So that makes me feel very, very grateful.”

Though he is now leading his new series, The Bondsman, Bacon still has a place in his heart for being a character actor, which he feels provides him more flexibility in what he’s able to do. “It does, because I always wanted that. It’s something that I worked my whole life for. And the things that I am offered are never exactly the same,” he adds.

The Bondsman season 1 is now streaming on Prime Video.
