Kelly Ripa admitted that she once hoped to have more children, but her husband, Mark Consuelos, was not on board with the idea. During the December 2 episode of LIVE, the co-hosts discussed how many kids they both wanted after reading a headline about a Canadian mother who tried for a girl but instead became pregnant with triplet boys.
âSo listen to this,â began Kelly. âA mom of three boys tries for the girl â we know people that have done this â and she got pregnant with triplet boys.âÂ
âI wish we could zoom in on the husbandâs expression. Oh man. Oh my gosh,â replied Mark. âWhat a blessing,â he added of the family of eight. âI love that,â shared Kelly.
Mark then shared an insight into the coupleâs own parenting plans. âYou would have been happy with six kids,â he said to his wife. âOh yeah, very happy with six kids,â replied Kelly. âYou cut me off. I felt robbed.â
The couple tied the knot in 1996, when they eloped in Las Vegas a year after meeting on the set of the soap opera All My Children. They went on to welcome kids Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22 together.
However, Kelly admitted that, in hindsight, stopping at three kids may have been the right decision. âNow that theyâre grown, Iâm like, yeah, this is nice,â she shared. âBecause we would still be in it. If I had gotten my way, weâd still be going through college tours, all of that. Weâd be driving ourselves crazy. Now itâs nice â but at the timeâŠâ
âAccess denied,â added Mark.
Christmas confession
Mark and Kellyâs parenting revelation comes after they share a glimpse into their pending family Christmas during an episode of LIVE in November. The couple joked that this year for Christmas, they should just give people the âgift of usâ.Â
âKids are old now, Iâm not getting them anything,â admitted Mark. âYouâre not getting them anything?â asked Kelly. âThey get money,â the Riverdale star continued, adding: âGive them a check or something and say, âMerry Christmas.'â
âI donât know. That sounds badâŠThat sounds really bad,â responded Kelly.
Parenting style
âTheyâre fantastic,â Michael Gelman, executive producer of LIVE with Kelly and Mark, told HELLO! about the coupleâs parenting skills on September 30. âIâve known them for over a quarter century,â he shared. âKelly has been working with me that long directly. I knew them before when they were just on the soaps, and Mark has cohosted about 100 times over the years, but now heâs the permanent guy, so itâs wonderful to have the LIVE family grow even more with a real married couple as part of the everyday show.â
Mark joined LIVE officially in 2023 following Ryanâs departure. Ryan left the show due to the demands of traveling back and forth between his home in Los Angeles and the studio in New York, as well as his desire to focus on other projects.Â
