Run and tell all of the angels — Kelly Clarkson is singing Foo Fighters!
On Thursday, April 3, the singer-songwriter performed a stunning rendition of the Foo Fighters’ “Learn to Fly” for the Kellyoke segment of her hit talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.
While covering the 1999 anthem, Clarkson, 42 — who wore a yellow T-shirt and wide-leg dark denim jeans — injected her signature vocals.
“Now, I’m looking to the sky to save me / Looking for a sign of life / Looking for something to help me burn out bright,” she sang inspirationally. “And I’m looking for a complication / Looking ’cause I’m tired of lyin’ / Make my way back home when I learn to fly high.”
After the performance, she walked off the stage and told her audience she “just had like, a lot of caffeine and I’m just running hot.”
“I love the Foo Fighters. I few years ago we actually had Dave Grohl on the show and we talked about that song,” she said. “I thought it had all this deep meaning and he was like, ‘No, I really just wanted to become a pilot.'”
The “Breakaway” singer called that “b.s.” and insisted he was just “trying to be funny” about the “deep song.”
“It’s such a cool song. He’s poetic. Just lean into it, Dave. You could be a pilot and a poet,” she said.
“Learn To Fly” served as the title track for the Foo Fighters’ album, There Is Nothing Left to Lose.
Meanwhile, Clarkson recently celebrated the 1,000th episode of her daytime talk show and welcomed her audience with a heartfelt speech on how the program has grown since its Sept. 9, 2019 debut on NBC.
“Welcome to the Kelly Clarkson Show and our 1,000th episode,” the “Since U Been Gone” singer said as she marked her return after an unexplained absence. “I cannot believe today marks the 1,000th. It’s crazy.”
She also reflected on how she and her team have “created a community and supported each other through a lot of ups and downs.”
“A lot of ups and downs personally as well,” she joked, seemingly referencing her own life.
“For 1,000 episodes, we have laughed together, we have cried together with beautiful stories, sang together with some people, danced together, celebrated and competed together,” she said.
“I’ve lost, alone, a lot,” Clarkson added. When she heard a laugh from the audience she replied, “It’s OK.”
“And along the way, we found comfort in one another. And looking back, we are all incredibly proud of what we’ve built and the community we’ve created,” the “Stronger” singer said. “I am grateful to everyone who has been a part of this journey. It has been such a cool time. Thank you so much.”
