Keke Palmer is getting candid about nude scenes and why she’s “always been reluctant” to film one.

The One of Them Days star, 31, revealed in a new interview with The Independent that while she’s known to give everything a try — from sci-fi horrors to comedies such as her latest film — she isn’t as interested in some aspects of acting.

“I’ve always been reluctant to do nudity just because I’m so shy and, you know, embarrassed,” Palmer said. “And to know that people are going to be able to have [those scenes] forever?”

“I could never have the confidence to do something like that!” she added. “I’m not that bold.”

Palmer also gave fans some insight into who she is on a “deep level,” telling the outlet that she has “always been the kind of person that’s felt very lonely or had these big emotions.”

“And I always say that people who are considered comedians, or people that make people laugh, they’re not necessarily seen as serious,” she continued. “Usually, though, they’re the ones with the deepest feelings of all, and it’s that humor that’s helping them get through.”

Palmer previously discussed her stance on onscreen nudity during an appearance on Club Shay Shay in November. At the time, she told host Shannon Sharpe that she didn’t think she felt “confident” to partake in it. “I’m not really mad at the love scene, but it’s like, ‘What kind? What kind of choreography are we doing?’ ” Palmer said. “But other than that, I’m open. But I’m not into nudity.”

The Nope star added that being a mother to now-2-year-old son Leodis also plays a part in the roles she’s willing to take in her career.

“Before I was a mom it was my parents, my family, my community, what I want to represent,” she said. “And then it’s become even more of my son and what I want him to see and know. That’s not stringent and rigid, right? I think mothers and women are nuanced… But it’s just like, how will I speak to him about it? Is it something I can stand behind? Things like that.”

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at Vanity Fair and Instagram’s annual Vanities party earlier this week, Palmer explained why she owes her vibrance in life to motherhood.

“I attribute it to self-love, which has been ignited even more so by my son,” she said. “You know, when you have a kid, you’re always trying to figure out what you can do better, how you can be better for the child, and loving yourself to me is No. 1.”

“I feel like I’ve been pouring so much more into myself so that I can be the best mom to him. And it has made my life even more fulfilling, to be honest with you,” Palmer added
