Kathy Griffin is opening up about a recent health scare.
On Monday, April 7, the comedian, 64, revealed on Instagram that she recently underwent a hysterectomy due to a precancerous condition, which she didn’t explain further.
“Happy Monday!” she wrote. “I had a hysterectomy on Friday, that’s right they took out the uterus, the fallopian tubes & the ovaries. Pre-cancerous, blah blah blah.”
Griffin said she would eventually be sharing more details on a Patreon account.
“Not to be an asshole, but how do I NOT have a reality show to capture all of this???” she added in the caption. “I mean, you can’t write it. It’s too real. ”
In the comments section, fans of Griffin sent her well wishes amid her recovery.
“Sending you positivity & speedy recovery.” one person wrote, while another added, “Prayers for a speedy recovery
! Be patient with yourself. It does get better! One day at a time. You know.

This isn’t Griffin’s first health scare. She revealed in August 2021 that she was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer and needed part of her lung removed.
In December 2021, she said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live that she was officially cancer-free after undergoing a successful surgery. On the show, she had a breathier, higher voice after undergoing surgery — and the comic immediately cracked a joke about it.
“I had surgery, you’re not going to believe this — so, I’ve never smoked but I got lung cancer. In August, I had half of my left lung removed,” I’m not even kidding,” she told Kimmel before explaining that her voice was temporarily altered by an intubation tube affecting her vocal cord.
“So now I’m like Minnie Mouse meets Marilyn Monroe,” Griffin quipped. “It will heal, but I’m sort of enjoying it. I’m a good two octaves higher, I think. It’s higher than Mariah Carey, I know that.”
When Kimmel asked, “Did the doctors get it all? They got all the lung cancer out of there?” Griffin confirmed that her tumor had been fully removed.
When she first shared the news of her diagnosis, Griffin encouraged her fans to stay “up to date on your medical check ups,” and remained optimistic about her own health, writing on Instagram, “I’m gonna be just fine.”
