Kate Nash has opened up about hiding her sexuality when she was younger.
During an interview on Origins with Cush Jumbo on Tuesday, Nov. 5, the former GLOW star, 37, recalled the experience during primary school that made her reticent to be open about being bisexual.
âIâm bisexual and I remember there was a bisexual girl at my primary school in the last year and she came new for the last year,â Nash told Cush Jumbo. âAnd she would walk down the street reading a book. And everyone was like, âsheâs so weirdâ and Iâm like, âYeahâ, she says sheâs bisexual and weâre like âWeird, what a freak,â you know.â
She continued: âAnd then at school, I remember a girl saying to me, âItâs just so disgusting, the thought of two girls kissing, like just makes me feel sick,â and Iâm like, âYeah, me too,â But actually, Iâm like, âI think I want to kiss girls, is something wrong with me?â
Nash then told the host, 39, how diverse and accepting the environment was when she attended the BRIT School in her teen years.
âEveryoneâs so cool and different and I had a ton of gay friends talking about all of their sexual experiences to me and wanted to be open,â the âFoundationsâ singer recalled, adding that she âcould kiss girls finally without having to pretend it was gross.â
Elsewhere in the conversation, Nash also opened up about being taught that âmasturbation is a sinâ by her teachers.
âThe teacher was kind of laughing so I feel like the teacher kind of knew and because like one of the boys was likeâŠâWhat about on yourself?â And she was like, âYeah, thatâs a sin.â And weâre all like, âAh,â because heâs talking about masturbating,â she said.
Nash added: âI was like masturbating every night like sinning my soul away, desperately sinning.â
The âMouthwashâ artist also revealed she âdidnât know that you couldnât get pregnant from masturbatingâ when she was âreally little.â

Nash isnât a stranger to opening up about her personal life.
In a 2017 interview with The Independent, she opened up about the body shaming she dealt with in the public eye.
âWhen youâre a woman, you have such a strange relationship with your body because â especially when youâre in the public eye â youâre constantly being judged,â Nash said.
She continued: âPeople comment on my body all the time in a really inappropriate way, in a way I find completely offensive[. I] saw it in serious newspapers where Iâve been called âtoo fatâ and âtoo uglyâ to be a popstar. Itâs so weird, but people feel like they can say that to you.â
