The Princess of Wales was a vision in green on Tuesday as she stepped out in Aldershot to visit the regiment at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Mons Barracks. The princess, who is the Colonel of the Irish Guards, opted for a take on a look she wore in 2012 to her first St Patrick’s Day parade.

The wife of Prince William rocked a forest green wool coat featuring structured shoulders and double-breasted buttons. She cinched the coat further at the waist with a heavy black belt featuring a square leather buckle.

Underneath, the princess wore a black pleated midi skirt. She accessorised with pointed-toe black boots with a skinny heel, a black scarf, and a beautiful accented felt hat. In 2012, Kate opted for a green coat dress with a statement black belt over the top.

As for her beauty look, the royal wore warm brown eyeshadow and a my-lips-but-better lipstick. Her hair was the crowning glory of the look. Situated at the middle of her head, Kate’s bun featured an intricate plaited look with the side sections pulled back behind her ears to create a lifted look.

It’s a look that struck a chord with fashion stylist, Leanne Jones. “I love this nod to ‘early Kate’ – a homage to her 2012 St Patrick’s Day debut. This belted coat feels like an updated take on that look, and arguably an even stronger version,” she tells us. “Where she opted for bare legs back then, she’s now grounded the outfit with her signature suede boots – giving it a more refined, contemporary edge.”

Leanne particularly likes the green colour blocking. “The hat is an exact match to the coat, creating a seamless, polished look, while the structured bow detail adds a touch of elegance. It’s a hat shape that clearly works for her too – we’ve seen similar styles recently, including during the German President’s visit in December, a black variation on Christmas Day 2025, and again at last year’s St Patrick’s Day appearance.”

The stylist also points out how her creative updo complements her clothing choices. “The braided twist into a neat knot here is a particularly elegant touch, and I wonder if it brings a sense of subtle storytelling. The braid could be interpreted as a nod to Irish heritage and Celtic folklore, where traditional hairstyles often featured intricate plaits symbolising status and identity,” she says.

“No part of Kate’s wardrobe is unplanned, so it wouldn’t be surprising if the combination of rich green tones and this braided detail were a quiet tribute to Ireland today.”

Kate has long made an appearance at the St Patrick’s Day parade but has had a special role since she was made Colonel-in-Chief of the Irish Guards regiment, succeeding her husband in 2022 when he became Colonel-in-Chief of the Welsh Guards.

In 2025, the royal chose a bottle-green Alexander McQueen coat featuring a cinched waistline, boxy shoulders, and pockets on the hip. She wrapped up warm with gloves, boots, and a scarf, and added an extra chic touch with her flower-adorned hat.

In 2024, she skipped the parade due to her health, but the year before, she stunned in a lighter shade of green. The teal bespoke Catherine Walker coatdress featured a high neckline and buttons down the front and was paired with matching Gianvito Rossi pumps and a Jane Taylor hat.
