Kate Middleton made a surprise appearance at London’s Royal Marsden hospital on Tuesday.

The Princess of Wales visited the hospital where she was treated for cancer last year in a polished burgundy and red outfit.

The focal point of Middleton’s look was a tartan-print overcoat from one of her go-to outerwear labels, Blazé Milano. It’s a custom, longer version of the brand’s blazer in the same style ($1,700 $1,190).

Middleton kept warm by layering the double-breasted jacket over a toasty Kiltane cashmere turtleneck sweater ($205 $95), which she teamed with an Edeline Lee pleated midi skirt ($890).

The princess’s accessories were in line with the rich, wintery color palette, too.

Middleton carried a cranberry-colored Asprey bag ($3,700) and wore brown suede pointy-toe heels from Russell & Bromley.

The royal threw another budget-friendly piece into the mix in the form of gold and silver Missoma hoops ($125) from the brand’s collaboration with stylist and content creator Lucy Williams.

During the visit, Middleton thanked the hospital staff and spoke to patients currently undergoing chemotherapy.

“It’s really tough,” she said to one patient, according to the BBC. “It’s such a shock. Everyone said to me, ‘please keep a positive mindset, it makes such a difference.’”

She talked to other patients, explaining, “You think the treatment has finished and you can crack on and get back to normal, but that’s still a real challenge.”

“The words totally disappear. And understanding that as a patient, yes there are side effects around treatment but actually there are more long-term side effects.”

Though the Princess of Wales said she’s been feeling well, she noted: “Sometimes from the outside we all think you’ve finished treatment and you go back to things. But it’s hard to get back to normal.”

Last week, Prince William, 42, shared a sweet Instagram post in honor of Middleton’s 43rd birthday.

“The strength you’ve shown over the last year has been remarkable,” the Prince of Wales captioned a black-and-white photo of his wife.

“George, Charlotte, Louis and I are so proud of you,” he added.
