Kate Hudson says a reality show following her famous family is a no-go.
While attending the Los Angeles premiere of her new Netflix comedy series Running Point, Kate, 45, responded candidly when asked by Entertainment Tonight if her family — which includes mom Goldie Hawn, stepdad Kurt Russell and siblings Oliver Hudson, Boston Russell and Wyatt Russell — would ever consider a stint on reality television.
“It’ll never happen,” Kate said.
“Listen, my dad, he’s just too cool. He’d rather just be in Colorado just being dad… Snake Plissken doesn’t do reality,” she added, referencing Kurt’s character in the movies Escape from New York and Escape from L.A.
While a reality show appears to be out of the question for her family, Kate still let her loved ones in on her latest project, in which she plays Isla Gordon, a woman who is unexpectedly appointed to run her family’s professional basketball franchise, the Los Angeles Waves. Brenda Song stars as the team’s chief of staff and Isla’s best friend.
As Song, 36, revealed on Kate and Oliver’s podcast, Sibling Revelry, Kate even introduced her to their famous mother. “Oliver, you don’t understand. Kate knows this: Sometimes I’d be in a scene and I’d be like, ‘I’m doing a scene with Kate Hudson. What is my life?’ ” the former Disney Channel star said.
Song added that she eventually met Hawn, 79, via FaceTime, which she called “one of the craziest moments.”
“Kate was FaceTiming, and she was like, ‘Oh, wait … Mama, I want you to meet Brenda, who plays my best friend [on Running Point],’ ” she recalled. “I was like — I needed a second before I get on a FaceTime with Goldie freaking Hawn. Don’t put me on the spot like this.”

At the Running Point premiere, Kate stepped out with her musician fiancé, Danny Fujikawa, as she wore a champagne satin gown by Roberto Cavalli. She accessorized the elegant look with a silver diamond necklace with a pink jewel at the center, as well as a ring on each hand. Fujikawa, 38, opted for a black suit jacket and a white shirt.
The new sports comedy follows Kate’s character as she must “prove to her skeptical brothers, the board and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job,” per a synopsis.
The series — which also features Justin Theroux, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Jay Ellis and Max Greenfield — arrives on Netflix on Feb. 27.
