Kate Beckinsale has deleted her entire Instagram history following a series of shocking comments made by followers on a video she posted about weight loss.
The 53-year-old took to Stories on August 8 to share dozens of screengrabs of comments she had received focusing on her body and weight loss, with some accusing her of using GLP-1s.
“Loosen up the Ozampic !! You were divine and now you look anorexic!,” read one comment, as another read: “Gain weight you f— [need] it.”
In response, Kate scrubbed her entire profile.
Kate’s difficult few years
In the now-deleted video, Kate claimed “anytime I post a photo of myself, I receive an enormous amount of comments telling me how disgusting I look and I’m anorexic or I’m on meth or that I’ve lost so much weight.”
“First off, I’ve lost my entire family, except my precious daughter, in a short time,” she continued, referring to the death of her mother Judy and of stepfather Roy. Kate’s mother, Judy Loe, died in July 2025 after a cancer diagnosis, just 18 months after she lost her stepfather Roy Battersby in January 2024.
In 2024, Kate was also hospitalized for an esophageal tear.
Auto-immune disease and impact on Kate
Kate also reminded followers of her auto-immune disease, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), which she was diagnosed with 16 years prior.
Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) happens when chemicals called mast cell mediators are released too frequently or abundantly in response to triggers that are not typically considered to be harmful, for example; foods or chemicals in the environment, according to Cleveland Clinic
It can cause unexpected weight loss or rapid weight fluctuations due to chronic inflammation, severe food restrictions, malabsorption, nausea, and abdominal pain.
Treat people with kindness
Kate’s deleted video also reminded followers to remember that it’s important to know we “don’t know what’s going on in people’s lives.”
“Treat people just how you’d like to be treated yourself, give people a little grace. If you don’t have anything nice to say, maybe don’t say anything,” she added.
“You don’t want to be the last straw for somebody, you don’t want to be the thing that makes them more sick, just keep going, it’s not hard.”
Disconnect between public and private
The incident highlights a growing disconnect on social media platforms between users and public figures, where noticeable physical changes are attributed to GLP-1s, ignoring health conditions or personal tragedies.
In recent days, Ariana Grande also withdrew from the spotlight after she was forced to address public speculation about her body in a candid video, reminding viewers that “healthy can look different” and urging fans to refrain from commenting on people’s bodies.
Kate’s regrets
In the Stories, Kate also expressed regret for posting the video when several comments focused on her voice, with one follower accusing her voice of creaking “like a door.”
“Sometimes when I am in a flare, I get crippling acid reflux. I probably should not have made this video. I am truly sorry,” she replied, noting that her illness was actively flaring.
Another comment also asked her if she would “like to put on some weight,” to which she replied: “Yes, very much.”
