Kat Dennings recalled how she grew up with âniceâ ghosts in her childhood home â and how one even saved her mom from a terrible accident.
During a March 17 appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the Shifting Gears star, 38, shared details of the paranormal incident after Hudson, 43, asked, âYou grew up in a haunted house from the 1600s?â
âThatâs unfortunately correct, guys. I grew up in a beautifully, extremely haunted old house,â Dennings said of her childhood home in Pennsylvania. âThe historical society put a sign on it, itâs like a historical site. Thatâs how old it is.âÂ
She then added ominously, âAnd there were a lot of things that happened there.â
âIs it true you feel like a ghost saved your mom?â Hudson asked.
âYes, this is a very real thing,â Dennings responded. âSo, everyone in the house had their own experiences with the haunting situation. But my mom almost had a horrible accident.â
Dennings continued: âWe had a basement that was horrifying. It was so scary down there, and the stairs were very rickety and very shallow. And my mom, once she tripped and fell down the stairs and was stopped in mid-air by something. Stopped completely from hitting the floor and was put back to standing.â
She paused briefly to look at the audience and added: âI swear to god. Iâm having goosebumps thinking about this.â
The Two Broke Girls alum explained that her mom was saved from any extreme injuries, and only hurt her pinky finger from trying to use the wall to stop her fall.
âBut she was completely stopped in mid-air and put back byâŠâ she paused again before dramatically adding, âsomething.â
With a slightly stunned expression on her face, Hudson joked, âWell, at least yâall had good ghosts.â

Before diving into the eerie tale, Dennings admitted the ghosts in her home were âpretty nice.â She recalled how they would only antagonize her with âclassicâ ghost behavior.Â
âSometimes if I played my music too loud, my CDs would fly across the room. Like off of shelves. I swear. I know it sounds so crazy but it really happened,â she told Hudson. âThings like, the lights would turn on and off, you know, just all the classics.â
She also added that when she was a kid, she was âpretty open-mindedâ when it came to the supernatural. She noted how Halloween was her favorite holiday growing up, and how she was âobsessedâ with The Addams Familyâs Wednesday Addams.
Shifting Gears airs Wednesdays on ABC.
