Kanye West‘s latest series of controversial tweets made reference to his ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s infamous 2007 sex tape with Ray J.
“Told Ray J we need to hit Kim from both sides for that Superstar part two,” West, 47, wrote in a since-deleted tweet on Wednesday, April 9, per the Daily Mail. Kardashian and Ray J, both 44, called it quits after three years of dating in 2006, one year after which a video of them having sex during a Mexico vacation was obtained by Vivid Entertainment. Kardashian sued the company for $5 million that same year to gain rights to the tape. (Us Weekly has reached out to reps for all three for comment.)
The tape has continued to stir drama between the exes in the years since the scandal. Ray J took jabs at Kardashian’s relationship with West, 47, in his 2013 track “I Hit It First,” and took credit for helping Kardashian become a household name. “I only did my part [in making her famous],” he told Heat in January 2017. “As a man, I tried to play my part in the situation. If you’re intelligent you can read between the lines.”
In an April 2022 episode of The Kardashians, Kardashian revealed West had gained access to a new explicit video Ray J had of the two. “So Kanye flew home last night, and he came back this morning. I want to show you guys what he got me. He got me all of the sex tape back,” she said on the show. “He flew home, and he got the computer it was on and the hard drive. He met with Ray J at the airport, and he got it all back for me.”
One month later, Ray J claimed that Kardashian had been in possession of the newer sex tape, sharing screenshots of DMs between him and the reality star. After he joked they should release the tape, Ray J claimed, “That’s when she jumped on the idea, talked to her mom [Kris Jenner] and it was out of my hands from there.”
Ray J later alleged to Daily Mail that he and West had a four-hour meeting to discuss the tape drama “in a private terminal at the back of Los Angeles airport,” adding, “I was showing him these timelines and letting him know that everything that’s been said to him is not true.”
Despite allegedly having no explicit footage to hand over to West, Ray J claimed, “The whole time, he wasn’t really listening to me and he was eager to get back on a plane and back to the Hulu show.”
Kardashian apologized to Ray J via text at the time, writing, “I’m sorry to hear how this has affected you — it wasn’t my intention.” A source later told Us that Kardashian was “mortified this period in her life is coming up again,” adding, “It was such a hard time of speculation and invasion of privacy and it’s been hard with speculation about her sex tape.”
Taylor Swift and Madonna were among the other targets of West’s baseless tweets on Wednesday, during which he also referred to Kardashian as his “nanny.” Last month, the rapper claimed via X that the “Kardashian mob” was taking away his parenting “rights.” (The exes, who were married from 2014 to 2022, share kids North, 11, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 5.)
Amid the drama, West stated that he “didn’t want to have children with [Kim] after the first two months of being with [her]” in a March 30 interview with podcaster DJ Akademiks. “But that was God’s plan.”
Kardashian has yet to publicly comment on West’s latest behavior. A source told Us last month that she was “considering” filing for full custody of their children as a result of their recent conflict.
