Kandi Burruss is grateful to have written some bonafide hit songs.
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, the former Real Housewives of Atlanta star, 48, reflected on some of the hit songs sheâs written for artists including TLC, Destinyâs Child, Pink and more as she was asked to name her âMount Rushmoreâ of songs from throughout her career.
ââJust Kickinâ Itâ was big for Xscape, our first hit,â said Burruss, a member of the R&B girl group, before speaking on the iconic TLC hit she wrote. âOf course, âNo Scrubs.â âNo Scrubsâ will forever be my gift that keeps on giving back to me. People keep sampling it.â
ââBills, Bills, Bills,â because that one you can just break out in song at any given moment when people start talking about a bill,â she continued, naming Destinyâs Childâs 1999 single.
âFor me, for my personal song, âDonât Think Iâm Not,â you know? So, that oneâs always a winner too,â added Burruss of her 2000 track.
She then recalled writing Pinkâs debut single âThere You Goâ from her 2000 album Canât Take Me Home. âThat was her first single that blew up for her, and itâs so funny because itâs so different from her music that she did after,â said the artist.
âBut I would love to work with her in her current era and the music that she does,â she added.
Looking forward, Burruss revealed who else she wants to write for today. âIâve always wanted to work with Rihanna even though I know she hasnât put out anything in a minute. Like, whereâs the album? I would love to work with her and have her finally drop something new,â she said.
âAnd then I want to go back in with BeyoncĂ© too. Weâve already worked together, obviously. But I would love to work with her in this current era,â noted Burruss.
Beyond songwriting and reality TV, the star is currently a producer on the new Broadway production of Othello starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal. âThe teenage version of me would be hitting flips right now because I went to a performing arts school,â she told ET.
âI was in the Youth Ensemble of Atlanta for musical theater and theater. And to see that Iâve made it to the point where Iâve produced four Broadway shows, and now the show that Iâm producing, Othello, is breaking Broadway records and making history, like, itâs crazy,â said Burruss.
She added that her inner theater kid is âgeeking all the way outâ at her latest gig.
âI feel like I made, you know, obviously I made my mama proud. I made my brother, rest in peace, I know I made him proud. Teenage me is proud,â she said.
