Julia Bradburyis a successful presenter and best-selling author, and as her Instagram bio states, she’s also a “cancer thriver” who shares her own health journey publicly to help others. Since her diagnosis in 2021, Julia has transformed her health to minimise her risks, and her new way of living has extended to her home and applies to her husband and three children.
The star lives in Notting Hill with her husband, Gerard Cunningham, as well as her son Zephyrus, born in 2011, and her twin girls Zena and Xanthe, born in 2015. There are certain house rules that Julia now abides by, keep reading to discover them.
Healthy food
Julia is now known to take her own packed lunches to places so she can ensure what she’s eating is full of goodness. At home, healthy food for the family is a priority. “I let my kids have pizza and ice cream and the food their friends eat. It’s just at home they eat very healthily,” she told The Times.
No sweets
She was no stranger to a bag of Haribo sweets to provide an instant sugar hit as she was busy on the road for her job, but now sweets are not allowed, and she doesn’t like her children having them either.
When she did find a pack of sweets in her daughter’s room, she recalled the moment: “My daughter smiled. She’d already obviously eaten half of it. I didn’t berate her, I just picked it up very quietly and put it in my pocket. I didn’t do it secretly or horribly.”
Avoid microplastics
Speaking in the same interview, she touched upon another house rule surrounding the children’s beds. “They’ve got all these Jellycat cuddly toys, which I don’t let them have on the bed because they’re full of microplastics,” she said.
Fresh air as much as possible
A typical morning for Julia involves breathwork. “I sit outside on my windowsill – wearing a Dryrobe if it’s raining – to get natural light in my eyes. I observe the trees and birds, do breathwork,” she told The Telegraph. She also admitted: “If I’m stuck indoors, sticking my head out a window for a moment of air and daylight.” She pointed out that it is something she never did before cancer.
Julia’s cancer journey
Julia’s personal commitment to her health also means she’s teetotal and she largely avoids meat. In her chat with the Times, she said: “People don’t like to hear it, but there’s so much we can do to protect ourselves from not getting ill in the first place,” which is why she’s so keen on making as many changes as possible.
Julia has opened up about her personal circumstances in her ITV documentary Breast Cancer and Me. After discovering her cancer in the form of a two-and-a-quarter-inch tumour in her left breast, she underwent a mastectomy, during which her breast and two lymph glands were removed and reconstructed.
“I have this feeling of embracing everything now, grabbing everything that life has to offer with open arms. I wasn’t sure that I would ever travel again – and certainly wasn’t sure whether I’d wear a bikini ever again,” the TV presenter told HELLO!, as she enjoyed a post-surgery holiday at the luxury Heritage Le Telfair resort.
