Joy Behar was “not reprimanded” for exposing co-host Sara Haines’ “lesbian relationship” on “The View,” a source tells Page Six.
“Sara freely shared the story with the studio audience last week, although it was off camera,” the insider adds. “She did not have a private conversation about it with her co-hosts.”
Page Six has reached out to reps for ABC and Behar for comment.
The update comes amid Daily Mail’s report that the former “Late Night Joy” host, 82, was criticized by her co-hosts for “embarrassing” Haines during a live taping of the ABC talk show. A source alleged to the outlet that Behar was told by her employers that her remarks were “not OK.”
Haines’ romantic life initially made headlines following Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” when co-host Whoopi Goldberg introduced her parents, Sandy and Dick Haines, who were sitting in the audience.
Behar then bluntly asked, “I have to ask her a question –– are you going to bring up that lesbian relationship you said you had or not? Back at Smith [College]!”
A stunned Haines, 47, laughed as the camera panned to her parents.
“Dad, earmuffs!” she quipped.
The “View” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin called Behar out for the remark, saying that was relayed to them “off air.”
Co-host Sunny Hostin added, “Now, it’s on air.”
Haines then joked that “it’s a good thing” her father “doesn’t always watch” the show.
“Now he will!” Goldberg, 68, said.
The mom of three tied the knot with her husband, Max Shifrin, in 2014. They share three kids: Richard, 8, Sandra, 6, and Caleb, 5.
