Joss, 38, spoke to us as she releases a new duet called Slow Lightning with fellow soul singer Conner Reeves, 53, who has written songs for artists like Sir Rod Stewart, Tina Turner and Westlife. The pair have been friends and creative partners for more than 20 years.

Here, the pair chat about music, friendship and family life.

Joss and Conner, tell us about working together again…

Joss: “I love Conner and have done for more than 20 years. I can’t believe he’s asked me to be a part of it, because it’s been so long waiting for him to have his own record. He’s written records for everyone! I’m very lucky.”

Conner: “Joss and I go back a long way – we’re rooted in the same musical heritage of soul music. If there was one female singer on the planet I’d want to duet with on the album, it would be Joss, because she’s so great.”

“I’ll have a cup of coffee and think, I want another baby”

Joss, you and your husband, Cody DaLuz, have four young children. How is family life?

“Right now, my littlest baby is still asleep. Nalima was up all night; I think she’s teething. She’s amazing, and so squidgy. Bear [aged one] looks like the most handsome man you’ve ever seen. I love my babies. I always like to snuggle up to Shackleton [aged three] to help him go to sleep.

“I’m homeschooling, and I have a little school in my barn. We’ve hired a teacher and she’s amazing. Violet [aged five] goes to the barn every day with a couple of other kids; they love it.

“If it was up to me, I’d have 25 children, because I’m a psycho. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I get so tired and say, ‘I can’t have any more kids,’ and then I’ll have a cup of coffee and think, ‘I want another baby.'”

And how are you finding married life?

“We’ve been together for around six years, married for two. We’re going to have [another] wedding, because we had a three-minute ceremony on Music Row in Nashville. It will be this year, somewhere in the woods.

“I think it’s fun, especially now that I’ve got my kids, because they can be part of it. Conner can sing Slow Lightning – that can be our wedding song.”

Conner, you have an adult son, Beau, and you live in Ibiza, which sounds idyllic…

Conner: “He’s 25, and he’s actually on my album as a three-year-old doing a little skit. In Ibiza, I’ve got a lovely casita with no neighbours. I love to make music and I’m less than a minute from the beach.”

Joss: “Oh my gosh – maybe we should all come to yours, then.”

Conner: “Yeah, that would be a vibe.”

Conner Reeves and Joss Stone’s duet Slow Lightning is out now.

Conner Reeves’ Deluxe album More Than Ten Thousand Days and the Church of the Restoration is out 17 April. Joss Stone plays Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2 May 2
