Jon Cryer gets into the holiday spirit — like, really gets into it.
“I build a stupid Christmas village,” the actor, 59, told PEOPLE at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles 2024 Gala.
“Although this year, I’m hanging back a little bit, because usually, I have themes,” he continued. “Like, I did a Los Angeles one, I’ve done Paris, I’ve done London. This year, I’m just going to do Americana. I’m gonna go old school.”
“It gets intense,” Cryer’s wife, Lisa Joyner, added.
As for where he puts his elaborate setup, Cryer said, “I do it all in front of the fireplace, and I basically build a whole extra area just to contain it all.”
Joyner added, “It goes onto the floors, into the living room.”

The Two and a Half Men alum also told PEOPLE that he doesn’t just build the village with store-bought goods either.
“I use the little figurines, like 50 of them, the little houses and everything. It’s all landscaped elaborately and lit up,” he explained.
“There are little carnival rides and ski slopes. I have a ski lift that goes up and down,” Cryer added, as Joyner noted, “He makes waterfalls.”
For those instances where there’s something that can’t be bought, Cryer said he takes matters into his own hands.
“I used a 3D printer when I had Los Angeles, and I printed several of those buildings. The Cinerama dome, a friend of mine did LAX, I did Disney Hall and City Hall,” he explained, adding: “I did the Die Hard building — Nakatomi Plaza — and I had a little guy hanging off in a helicopter over the building.”

Cryer and Joyner, who married in 2007, don’t have any young children together who might get their hands into the village. (Cryer shares son Charlie, 23, with his first wife.)
Still the pair said they do have to be wary about their two rescue dogs, though Cryer admitted that they seem to be aware that the village is off-limits.
“They’ve been very respectful,” the actor said, as his spouse added, “They mess it up, it’s over.”
