John Goodman has fans doing a double take.
The âRoseanneâ alum, 74, was labeled âunrecognizableâ by fans in a new candid photo shared to Instagram Thursday by âWizards of Waverly Placeâ star David DeLuise.
âHe was my childhood !! â€ïž Legend ! I love that I get to say that to someone đ if you know you know,â DeLuise captioned the supermarket selfie, seemingly taken in the breakfast foods aisle.
Fans were equally delighted to see Goodman doing well and expressed their admiration for him in the comments, with one calling the iconic actor âone of my favorite 80s/90s tv dads.â
âI loved him on Roseanne/The Connors. I also loved him as Fred Flintstone on the Flintstones movie,â they continued, with another adding that theyâll âalways remember him as the guy from raising Arizona.â
A third person labeled Goodman a âlegend,â noting, âThere was noting more surreal than growing up associating him with Monsters Inc and then watching The Big Lebowski as an adult. đ€Ż.â
âI absolutely hate getting older because that means my favorite actors are ALSO getting older,â one netizen lamented.
Goodmanâs slimmed-down look is one heâs been working on since 2007 when he quit drinking, hired a personal trainer, cut sugar out of his diet and adopted a Mediterranean-style diet, kicking off a yearslong weight-loss journey.
At his heaviest, the â10 Cloverfield Laneâ actor weighed roughly 400 pounds.
âIt takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your ass and figure out what youâre going to eat next,â he told People in 2010. âI wanted to live life better.â
In a 2016 interview with ABC, Goodman reflected on the âold daysâ of yo-yoing with his weight, recounting how heâd âtake three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds and then reward [himself] with a 6-pack of bud or whatever and just go back to [his] old habits.â
âThis time I wanted to do it slowly, move, exercise,â he told the outlet at the time. âIâm getting to the age where I canât afford to sit still anymore.â
Despite admitting to Rolling Stone in 2023 that heâd gotten âlazyâ and âlet everything goâ during the COVID-19 pandemic, Goodman has maintained his 200-pound weight loss over the years.
Since wrapping seven seasons of âThe Connersâ in 2025, Goodman has continued to stay busy with work and is set to hit the big screen later this year in Alejandro G. Iñårrituâs âDigger.â
The film, which features Tom Cruise like youâve never seen him before, releases Oct. 2.
