Jodie Sweetin harbors no ill-will toward former co-star Candace Cameron Bure, despite their opposing beliefs.
The âFull Houseâ alum said Bure was the âclosest thingâ she had âto a sisterâ during an appearance on âThe Momentâ podcast earlier this week.
âCandaceâs faith, to be quite honest, has always been at the forefront for her, and I have zero problem with that,â Sweetin, 43, explained.
Sweetin â who has been an outspoken champion for liberal causes, while Bure has been open about her faith â also acknowledged her opposing values with Bure, 48.
âI have no problem with religion if it brings you peace and happiness, not necessarily saying that her brand of religion is not necessarily peace and happiness,â she explained, adding, âI donât really know.â
âI do know that I donât think you can truly love people if you donât respect them,â Sweetin said.
âI think if you donât respect people enough to allow them the same rights of marriage, of bodily autonomy and all those things, then I donât think that you can truly love someone,â Sweetin continued.
âItâs some sort of weird pity, and itâs not love. For me, standing up to say that how we treat other humans because theyâre different from us is completely unacceptable. And Iâm pretty sure that is what Jesus wouldâve said, but what do I know? Iâm not a Christian.â
Sweetin confessed sheâs âbeen loudâ with her opinions and said Bure has âkept a little more quietâ when it comes to politics.
Sweetin said itâs âOKâ if there are âpeople who donât like what [sheâs] saying,â or who like her as her character Stephanie Tanner but âdonât like you as you.â
âItâs, like, âGreat, watch Full House and donât follow me online,ââ Sweetin said.
âItâs OK, you donât have to like me, but I try not to let other peopleâs perceptions of who I should be put up any barriers of what I want to be,â she continued. âCandace and I are very different in that regard.â
A rep for Bure did not immediately respond to Page Sixâs request for comment.
Sweetin seemingly shaded Bure in 2022 after the latter left the Hallmark Channel for Great American Media â which she notoriously declared keeps âtraditional marriage at the core,â thus excluding gay couples. Â
Singer JoJo Siwa shared a screenshot of an article titled âCandace Cameron Bureâs Plan For New Cable Channel: No Gays,â via Instagram at the time, with Sweeten pointedly responding in the comments thread, âYou know I love you â€ïžâ€ïž.â
Bure subsequently unfollowed Sweetin on the platform.
Sweetin previously spoke out on the complicated dynamic, again comparing Bure to a family member.
âWe just exist in different worlds, but she is still someone I have known since I was 5 years old,â Sweetin said during a May episode of the âVaultâ podcast.
âItâs like family members. Maybe we donât talk all the time â and I know if politics come up, it is not going to go well, but I donât hate you. I am not going to not hug you, but Iâm also not going to not keep my mouth shut.
She added, âIâll be nice, but I will not be quiet.â
