Joan Jett is on the road to recovery after undergoing back surgery.
The âBad Reputationâ singer, 67, underwent âorthopedic surgery on a fractured vertebraeâ due to a ârecent injury,â her team announced in a message on her Instagram Stories Wednesday. As a result, sheâs canceling two shows she was scheduled to play next month.
âIn close consultation with her doctors, Joan will not be able to perform at her forthcoming September scheduled shows in Costa Mesa, CA on September 5th and Louisville, KY on September 24th,â the message reads.
âWhile Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing,â the statement continues. âSheâs looking forward to delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come.â
No further details were provided about her injury.
Jett and her band, the Blackhearts, wrapped up their first UK tour in 16 years last month. On Monday, the rocker posted a video montage of their performances on Instagram, writing, âThanks for the summer love Europe, canât wait to come back đ€.â
As of Monday, she was still promoting her scheduled September shows, adding, âStateside shows coming up Sept 5 at @oc_fair @pacificamphitheatre and Sept 24 at @bourbonandbeyond in Louisville đ„.â
It may take as long as six weeks for people who undergo surgery for a fractured spine to recover, then an additional few months for their spine to heal, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Jett talked about her love of touring in April, telling Far Out magazine, âTo be part of peopleâs interior dialogue is pretty special and a unique thing. Thatâs what I love most, is to be out on stage visibly seeing people enjoying themselves, and Iâm looking forward to it very much.â
Jett also explained how touring was different now that sheâs older, reflecting, âI know too much now. Thereâs just a thing that comes when youâre young, and I was definitely naive about a lot of things.â
âYou know, you got to have common sense, and you got to be able to take care of yourself,â she added. âI wish I knew then what I know now, you know.â
The rocker rose to fame in the â70s with her band the Runaways before they disbanded and she released her hit 1980 album, âBad Reputation.â
Together with her new band, the Blackhearts, they released the 1981 album âI Love Rock ân Roll,â with the titular topping the Billboard Hot 100.
