Jill Duggar Says She and Her Husband Derick Had to Reenact Their Proposal While Filming 19 Kids and Counting

Jill Duggar Dillard and Derick Dillard are celebrating 11 years since their engagement!

On Monday, March 31, the 19 Kids and Counting alum posted a heartfelt Instagram commemorating the anniversary of her husband Derek’s engagement. In the post, Jill, 33, shared a series of photos of their engagement with screenshots from the episode centering on it.

As she recalled, they were engaged on “a beautiful Saturday in the not-so-small-town square in Bentonville, Arkansas,” adding, “I couldn’t be more thankful to have @derickdillard by my side through the ups and downs of life! LYSM babe! .”

Jill also claimed that while filming the proposal for TLC, they “had to reenact it again to make sure the crew had everything they needed from all the camera angles. .”

“Also, when we initially walked toward the square, the people helping keep the square cleared for our film shoot, didn’t know we were the couple they were supposed to let in,” she continued. “So at first they said, ‘I’m sorry, there’s a film shoot happening right now, so we can’t let you on the square for a minute.’ But they let us pass once we let them know we were part of the shoot.”

Although Jill didn’t know exactly where Derick, now 35, was going to propose, she confessed that on the day of the proposal, she “pretty much knew it would be sometime that day. .”

Still, Derick had a few surprises for Jill.

At the time of their engagement, their producer was friends with country singer Walker Hayes, Jill explained. The producer had Hayes and Derick write a song about the couple’s love story. “Walker & his band performed in the square just before Derick proposed. ,” she added.

The couple tied the knot three months later in June 2014, in Springdale, Ark. “I am the most blessed man to have Jill,” Derick told PEOPLE after their nuptials.

They have since welcomed three sons, Samuel Scott, 7, Frederick “Freddy” Michael, 2, and Israel David, who will be 10 on April 6. In April 2024, the couple said that Jill’s latest pregnancy sadly resulted in the stillbirth of their daughter, Isla Marie.
