Jerry O’Connell’s twin daughters leave fans speechless in rare new photo as they mark major milestone

Jerry O’Connell has marked a bittersweet parenting milestone as his twin daughters, Charlie and Dolly, prepare for their senior year of high school.

The 52-year-old actor proudly shared the 17-year-olds’ official senior portraits on Instagram, and fans could hardly believe how grown up the girls now look.

Both teenagers posed in matching black off-the-shoulder tops for the striking portraits, with Charlie wearing her long brunette hair loose while Dolly showed off her lighter locks and beamed for the camera.

“Senior photos. Goes fast folks,” Jerry poignantly captioned the post. The photographs quickly attracted attention from his famous friends, with Kelly Ripa commenting: “Wow! Just stunning,” alongside two red heart emojis. Andy Cohen was equally impressed, simply writing: “Beautiful!”

Fans flooded the comments in disbelief over how quickly the twins have grown, with many remembering Charlie Tamara Tulip and Dolly Rebecca Rose as the little girls Jerry and his wife Rebecca Romijn welcomed in December 2008.

It’s a feeling Jerry clearly shares. He has spent much of the past year joking about the realities of raising two teenage daughters while admitting that, behind the humor, fatherhood has taught him some of life’s most important lessons.

Jerry has been particularly candid recently about just how much his relationship with Charlie and Dolly has changed as they’ve grown older. “I live with teenage girls, my daughters, and they are eternally embarrassed by me,” he joked in a recent interview while promoting his movie Summer’s Last Resort. “They can’t stand my presence. Everything I say is the wrong thing to say.”

The experience actually helped inspire his performance as a father in the movie. “Anytime I did a scene with Violet, I thought, ‘Oh, what is something my daughters would not talk to me for weeks at a time for?’ And I just did that in every scene,” he joked.

But beneath Jerry’s typically self-deprecating humor is a parenting philosophy that has evolved considerably as his daughters have become young women. “They also taught me to give people space,” he said. “I have to trust my kids. They’re pretty good kids.”

Jerry recalled struggling when one of his daughters decided she wanted to quit volleyball, admitting his instinct was initially to push her to continue. Eventually, he realized that allowing his children to make their own choices was more important.

‘I want them to always come to me’

Perhaps Jerry’s most revealing comments about fatherhood came earlier this summer when he explained what he hopes his relationship with Charlie and Dolly will look like as they enter adulthood.

Speaking on Ego Nwodim’s Thanks Dad podcast, Jerry reflected on the relationship his wife has with her own father and admitted it had shaped the kind of dad he wanted to become.

“I want to make sure I don’t have a complicated relationship with my daughters,” he said, adding that he wants them to feel “they can always come to me.” It is a particularly poignant admission as Charlie and Dolly approach 18 and prepare for a life that will inevitably become more independent from their parents.

That transition hasn’t stopped Jerry from finding plenty of humor in being the father of teenage girls. Earlier this summer, he revealed that working with One Tree Hill alum Sophia Bush suddenly made him significantly more interesting to his daughters.

“My daughters have watched every episode of One Tree Hill, and they wanted to go to dinner with Brooke,” he told Us Weekly. “Basically, Sophia is the link between myself and my daughters. That’s the only communication I have.”

He added: “I actually don’t even talk to them anymore. I just send messages to Sophia, who then talks to them in emoji and young people dialect.”

It’s a running joke that has followed Jerry throughout his daughters’ teenage years. When he shared photographs from their homecoming dance last October, the proud dad jokingly captioned them: “‘You can leave now, Dad.’ Happy HOCO Gals!”

Even when they were younger, he joked that the girls wanted him to drop them off two blocks away from school so their friends wouldn’t see him. “They want to be dropped off at the mall and hang out there for four hours, but they don’t want their friends to see me when I pick them up,” he said when they were 12.

Being a ‘girl dad’

Jerry has admitted that becoming the father of daughters was an entirely new experience for him because he grew up without sisters. He previously described it as “interesting being the father of girls,” and his approach has evolved considerably since Charlie and Dolly were born.

Back when they were seven and taking part in a school production of High School Musical, Jerry admitted he briefly transformed into an enthusiastic stage dad. When one daughter decided she didn’t want to audition, he attempted to persuade her, until Rebecca intervened.

“My wife got really upset with me and said, ‘You can’t make them do these things if they don’t want to do them,'” he recalled. It appears to have been a lesson that stayed with him, given his recent admission that parenting teenagers has taught him when to step back and trust his daughters.

Jerry and Rebecca married in July 2007 and welcomed their twins on December 28, 2008. Despite having two parents with long Hollywood careers, Charlie and Dolly have largely grown up away from the spotlight, although their parents occasionally share glimpses of important family milestones.

Jerry once joked that his wife has always been the more popular parent. “My kids like being with my wife and my kids don’t like being with me,” he said on The Talk in 2024. “They enjoy her company and they don’t enjoy my company.”

Rebecca has similarly described her husband as a “push over” with the twins, while Jerry readily agreed with her assessment. “I don’t argue,” he joked of his daughters asking him for permission. “Even before they ask, I go, ‘OK.'”

Years earlier, when Charlie and Dolly were still young enough to happily call themselves his Valentines, Jerry predicted that the dynamic wouldn’t last forever. “I have two girls and my wife, so I have three Valentines every year,” he said in 2017. “My daughters are 8, so they are still into being my Valentine. I am sure that will change soon and I will be heartbroken.”
