Jennifer Lopez showcased her athletic figure in a sizzling gym selfie posted to Instagram on Tuesday, in which she wore a fitted purple set while working out. The 56-year-old looked incredible in the purple leggings, purple sports bra and matching long-sleeved shirt, which she pulled up to reveal her toned abs.

Jennifer wore her long brunette hair out and opted for minimal makeup as she snapped the photo mid-workout. She also added a picture of a highlighted quote, which read: “The goal is simple. Better than yesterday. Every. Single. Day.”

“Keep it simple,” she wrote in the caption, as fans rushed to the comment section to share the love. “Wooooowooooow,” one fan wrote, while another added: “Okayyyyy mama.”

“Body goals,” a third chimed in, while a fourth said: “Such an inspiration.” Despite the loving comments, Jennifer has received backlash in the past for her outfits, which some critics deemed inappropriate.

“Thank God I’ve been doing this a long time. I can just ignore a lot of it. It really doesn’t mean [anything]. I tell my kids that all the time,” she said onstage during her tour.

“I do laugh at some of the things sometimes, because they do say funny things too. ‘Why she always dressed that way? Why don’t she dress her age? Why she always naked?’ And I said, ‘If you had this booty, you’d be naked too,'” she quipped.

The “Jenny From the Block” singer is famously a gym fan, and shared with Us Weekly that working out brought her a sense of peace.

“It’s no secret that fitness is a very important part of my life,” she explained. “I think there’s a positive correlation between exercise and mental health. When you find a good balance through determination and focus, we’re naturally pushing to be the best version of ourselves.”

“Very rarely will I skip my workout,” she added. “Sometimes, I work too late the night before, and I’m like, ‘Ugh, I can’t do this.’ But I tell myself, ‘Just do it. It’s only an hour.’ It’s just talking yourself off the ledge of being a lazy bum.”

Another way that Jennifer stays in shape is by prioritizing sleep in her life. “Get seven to nine hours of sleep, like carve it out,” she told Today. “Now, the other hours of the day? I’m going full speed. I’m full speed on the rest. But when I lie down, I’m like, ‘Okay, I need my rest.’ And when I don’t get it, something’s gonna suffer. You know, it will, and I’ve learned that.”

The star maintains a balanced diet

As for her diet, the mom of two doesn’t restrict herself, but eats everything in moderation. “Protein is my go-to,” she told Us Weekly. “It fills me up and keeps me full longer. It’s a great muscle fuel.”

“We eat a lot of green vegetables, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and kale,” she continued. “I love to cook a lot of stuff. I love cooking Puerto Rican food because that’s what I grew up on.”
